ABC Nabs Final Night Of Sweeps

LOS ANGELES (UltimateTV.com) – Overnight Metered Market Ratings for Wednesday, March 1, 2000.

A final installment of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” clinched another win for ABC in Wednesday’s (March 1) overnight-metered markets, and sealed an already done sweeps deal for the network. ABC, powered by “Millionaire” and miniseries events such as “Beach Boys: An American Family” deftly swept through February sweeps to grab an indisputable first place. For Wednesday night, the network averaged a 13.1 rating/20 share (last week, 11.6/17), fueled mainly by Regis Philbin and the million-dollar quiz show. NBC placed second for the night thanks to “Law & Order,” bringing the peacock a 9.6/15 (8.8/13) for the night. CBS took third place with a 7.8/12 (19.8/29) aided by part two of “Perfect Town, Perfect Murder.” FOX pulled up in fourth place with a 6.4/9 (6.2/9), getting some help from “Greed.” The WB took fifth place with a 4.2/6 (4.1/6) and UPN placed sixth with a 3.6/5 (3.2/5).

ABC led off the night with a special “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire,” winning a 19.9/30 (16.1/24), and nabbing top honors for the night. Next came “The Drew Carey Show,” which scored a 12.1/18 (9.5/13). At 9:30, “Norm” walked away with a 9.1/13 (last week, “Spin City,” 8.2/12). And rounding out the evening “20/20” garnered an 8.9/14 (last week, “NYPD Blue,” 9.9/15).

CBS started with a new “City of Angels” at 8 p.m., grabbing a 5.8/9. It was followed by the conclusion of its JonBenet Ramsey mini, “Perfect Town, Perfect Murder,” averaging an 8.9/14. Part Two of the series peaked at 9:30 with a 9.3/14. (last week, The 42nd Annual Grammy Awards, 19.8/29).

NBC started off the night with part three of its epic miniseries, “The 10th Kingdom,” averaging a 7.8/11 between 8 and 10 p.m. It peaked at 9 p.m. with an 8.3/12. Following was the peacock’s top performer of the night–“Law & Order”–which grabbed a solid 13.3/21 at 10 p.m. (last week, “Twenty-One,” 4.8/7; “The West Wing, 9.6/14; and ” Law & Order,” 12.1/19).

FOX started the night with “Beverly Hills, 90210,” nabbing a 5.6/8 at 8 p.m. It was followed by Chuck Woolery and ” Greed,” which stole a 7.3/11 at 9 p.m. (last week, ” Robbie Knievel Death Jump,” 5.2/8; ” Secrets of Street Magicians Finally Revealed,” 7.2/11).

The WB began the night with a new ” Dawson’s Creek,” taking a 4.6/7 at 8 p.m. It was followed by teen-alien drama ” Roswell,” which grabbed a 3.9/6 (last week, ” Buffy, the Vampire Slayer,” 3.4/5; ” Angel” 2.9/4).

UPN filled the primetime hours with ” 7 Days,” pulling in a 2.7/4 (2.8/4). ” Star Trek Voyager” followed at 9 p.m., capturing a 4.5/7 (3.6/5).”
