UPN made the official announcement Wednesday: Roswell has been canceled; the finale will air on May 14. Never a big ratings draw, the series nevertheless has attracted a loyal and vocal cult following who were credited with persuading UPN to pick it up after it was canceled after two seasons by The WB. On the fan website , a message was posted urging Roswell aficionados to write to Sci-Fi channel programming chief Stephen Chao urging him to pick up the series. “Spread the word like never before!” the message read. “If we’re going to go out, we will go out Roswellian style!”
