Liz smiled as she watched the volleyball game between the parents and kids. It was a hot Sunday; the day after Maria and Michael's wedding, and everyone was enjoying the last day of their weekend together. Liz loved watching her friends take on their parents, and how serious some of them were, and how comical and playful others were taking the game. Kyle and Isabel were taking the game seriously, and trying very hard to win against their dad, while Alex and Cassie just kept cracking jokes and horsing around, much to the other two's disgust. Max just enjoyed the banter and enjoyed the game for itself. On the other team were Jim and Amy Valenti, Liz's dad, Mr. Evans and Jordan. Liz could see where Isabel got her competitiveness from, in how driven Mr. Evans was to win against his children. Jim too seemed to be taking the game seriously, where as Amy and Liz's dad kept cracking up on their side to keep the humor on both sides balanced. Jordan seemed of the same mind as Max, and just enjoyed the game around him for the fun.

Liz was happy to see her friends and family all together and just being themselves and enjoying being together. She glanced over and saw Nadi, Jordan's wife, talking to Mrs. Evans, and then smiled even wider when her own mom came to sit down beside her on the other chair next to Liz's.

"May I say you are just glowing sweetie? And I love seeing you this happy. It's all your father and I ever wanted for you. Your happiness." Nancy Parker said smiling at her daughter and taking her hand.

"I am happy mom. I have everything I could ask for. A wonderful man, beautiful babies on the way, and I'm working at the research lab doing what I've always dreamed of." Liz answered squeezing her mother's hand warmly.

"I'm thrilled that such a prestigious biology lab is up here so close to where you and Max are living. I mean I know that living on Max's uncle's farm is helping you two out financially, but to also know that the lab is so close..." she smiled.

"It's like it was all meant mom. You know?" Liz asked in amazement herself. How would she have ever guessed that one day she would be working at one of the most renowned labs in the country, and how close it was to where Max's Uncle lived and where Max could also do some good. And how the lab was also working secretly on alien biology and how it could help the aliens on earth.

"Liz honey, I just want you to know how proud of you I am. You are accomplishing so much and with all the added stress of being pregnant, you are still working in the lab and taking night courses. I just want you to know how much I love you and am glad you found Max. He seems to make you so happy. Happier than I could ever imagine. I remember how your Grandma Claudia always used to talk about soul mates. Well, I didn't really believe that everyone had one. I mean, I think of your dad that way, but for everyone to have one? But I can see with you and Max that it's also true. And I just wanted you to know how I feel honey." Nancy Parker sighed and with tears in her eyes that matched Liz's, she leaned forward and took her strong daughter into her arms.

"Thanks mom. You don't know how much that means to me." Liz tried to swallow back her tears and beamed. A quick flash of something dark came over her but passed so quickly that Liz dismissed it. It was a perfect day, and only good thoughts should be present as well.

The gang had all talked this morning and were relieved to know that none of them had had any nightmares last night. It seemed like everything would be okay. Like once the nightmare was discussed, it no longer seemed as bad.

Jim Valenti said he would still watch out for everyone when they went back to Roswell tonight, and Max said he would of course say alert, but they were beginning to think that maybe their premonitions were just warning them, and they could prevent it that way.

Jordan had been surprised by their nightmares, and seemed concerned once they told him that both Cassie and Liz had had the same dream. But he didn't have an answer either, and just told the kids and Jim Valenti to keep their eyes open and their senses alert.

"Want me to refresh your drink Liz? I'm going inside?" her mother offered, getting up from her chair.

"Sure mom thanks." Liz smiled up at her, but her husband suddenly caught her attention. Max, sweaty and serious as ever about the on going game lifted his shirt over his head and tossed it on the sidelines. Liz couldn't help but suck in at the beautiful sight before her. The sweat gleamed off of her husband's extremely defined muscles leaving Liz breathless. No matter how many years they were together, Liz knew Max would always have this affect on her.

"Isn't that look only for newlyweds or honeymoon couples?" an amused voice asked from behind Liz.

Liz spun around with a laugh and Maria leaned down to hug Liz, not letting her get up from her chair.

"So! You two honeymooners decided to show up for a bit today?" she teased Maria and Michael who had just arrived.

Maria laughed and Michael raised an eyebrow. "Not for long, but we wanted to see everyone before they headed back home later." He quirked.

Liz nodded in understanding and took Maria's hand as she sat down next to Liz.

"You look so happy Maria. Did I get to tell you how beautiful a bride you were yesterday?" Liz asked, her own eyes twinkling as they met her best friends equally twinkling ones.

Maria nodded. "Looks like everyone is having a great time. We weren't even missed." She laughed looking at how upset Isabel was with her dad as they argued over a play.

Remembering what they had to tell Michael and Maria now that they were here sobered Liz up and she took a deep breath. They would tell them later. After the adults were gone. No sense upsetting a perfect day.

Alex was the first to notice the honeymooners and called them over to help out. Maria laughed and jumped up. She wanted to enjoy this time with everyone. There were not too many times they would all get a chance to come together at the same time.

To even out the teams, Nadi and Diane Evans were called to join the parent's side, and the game renewed.

Later, as the Parker's and Evan's were saying their goodbyes, Max pulled Jim Valenti over quietly.

"You're going to have them watched around the clock right?" Max asked the sheriff.

Jim looked at Max sharply. "Anything new I should know about?"

Max shook his head. "No...I just... want to make sure. You know, since I can't be there."

Jim nodded understanding Max's concern for his parents and Liz's. "I'm even leaving when your parents do. We'll be following yours and Liz's parents home in the car behind them." He assured the young man.

Max nodded. His parents had driven the Parker's up to the ranch so it would be the four of them going back together, and then Liz's parents could be dropped off safely at their home, with the sheriff right behind all of them.

"And I've got two of my deputies making extra rounds in their areas as well." Jim assured Max.

"Jim honey, you ready?" Amy called out as she waited with Maria.

Amy saw Jim nod and she turned again to her radiant daughter. "Oh honey! I'm so happy for you. You look beautiful and so glowing. Now Michael you take good care of my girl okay?" Amy smiled at him as she hugged him too.

"I promise." Michael said seriously, knowing how important Maria was to both of them.

Max and Liz waved one last time as their parents pulled out of the long drive, with promises to visit again in two weeks for the dinner Nadi was going to have for them all.

Liz shivered as she watched the car drive out of sight around a curve.

Max felt her shiver and looked down at her already curled up in his arms. "Hey...you okay?" he asked in a concerned voice near her ear, so that no one else could hear.

"I'm fine Max. Just the chill of night coming on." Liz smiled to reassure Max and herself as well.

"See you kids soon. And I'll keep in touch with things. I'll let you know if there's anything you should be concerned about." Jim assured them as he and Amy took their leave as well.

"Careful driving dad." Kyle called out and grinned when he saw Amy already starting to question his dad about his last minute talk to them.

When the taillights disappeared, the kids all turned around to each other and Isabel sighed. It was getting dark and they had over an hour trip home, but they all needed to talk with Maria and Michael.

Jordan sensed their apprehension and led them all into the living room. Michael and Maria had been told to stick around and they too were apprehensive, knowing from the looks on their friends' faces that it couldn't be good.

"Okay, what's up?" Michael asked immediately when they entered the house. His nerves were wound tight ever since Max had pulled him over an hour ago and told them they needed to talk.

*****************

The four were quiet as they rode back to Albuquerque a little later. Michael had been as furious as Max about being left out and Maria had been equally upset by the news. Isabel sighed and leaned back against Alex in the backseat, her eyes getting heavy. They still had another 40 minutes or more to drive, but she couldn't stay awake. She was glad Kyle was driving and Cassie was keeping him awake. They were all tired from the busy, exciting and draining weekend.

*****************

Liz came out of the bathroom rubbing lotion on her hands and smiled as she saw Max stretched out on their bed waiting for her.

But her smile turned to a frown when she noticed his pensive look as he stared up at the ceiling.

Max didn't even realize Liz was done in the bathroom until he felt her side of the bed move. He swore when he saw Liz's concerned look. He had been trying to hide his own apprehension all weekend.

"Give it up Max. I know you are worried like the rest of us." Liz sighed and snuggled up into Max's open arms as he too sighed and leaned his chin gently on her head.

"I trust Jim to watch over our parents." Max assured her, running his hand up and down her soft bare back soothingly.

"But what about you Max? Are you truly going to be extra careful too?" Liz couldn't help but ask. She knew Max. He would worry about everyone but himself.

"Yeah, I'll be extra careful." Max promised and then shifted Liz in his arms until she was lying down and he was leaning over her.

"Now what was on your mind earlier when I was playing volleyball?" He teased with a grin.

Liz laughed knowing he had sensed her enhanced sexual energy earlier and now he was going to play.

"Hmmm...well, if you must know, I was really surprised at how nice Kyle's build has gotten over the last few years. I wonder why I ever broke up with him?" she sighed in wonder.

Max growled and Liz laughed. Then Max grinned, "Hmmm.... and here I thought that maybe it was your poor neglected husband who you were ogling."

Liz laughed harder at the "poor neglected" part. Then Max laughed with her and began to tickle Liz, knowing just where her most sensitive areas were.

*******************

Jim Valenti sighed when they were almost home. It had been a long drive back, and for some reason his senses were on high alert. He figured it was because of the talk all weekend, but he couldn't completely dismiss it, and would be glad when they were all home safe.

Jim watched the Evan's car round the bend ahead and he glanced at the mile sign, knowing they would be coming out of the hills and into the Roswell area soon.

A loud explosion up ahead shook the car and Amy jumped awake. Jim's hands tightened on the wheel and he swore. "WHAT THE HELL!" And he sped the car up as he rounded the bend.

"OH MY GOD! JIM LOOKOUT!" he heard Amy scream from beside him as he slammed on the brakes and looked on in horror at the scene directly in front of them. A semi was blocking the road, and what looked like the Evan's car, or what was left of it was burning after it had exploded on impact with the truck.

Jim Valenti didn't remember anything after that as he kept applying the brakes and realized they were not going to be able to stop. Everything went into slow motion and he turned to Amy and looked at her one last time.

Then all went black.

*********************

Isabel had dozed off but suddenly sat up and started screaming from the back seat of the car.

*****************

Liz jerked her and Max out of a sound sleep with her piercing screams as well.
