Part 3 by Susan |
Disclaimer: I don't own any of the characters, the belong to the WB.
I just borrowed them for a short period. Summary: Diane Evans and Nancy Parker set their children up to find out why they broke up. Category: Max/Liz Rating: PG |
Setting: Evan's Residence Liz sat next to Max on the Evan's couch trying to give him as much support as she could. Her parents sat directly across from them and Max's father was seated in the arm chair next to the couch. Diane Evans walked into the living room with a tray holding several cups of coffee. She offered each person a cup and then sat on the arm of the chair next to her husband. "Okay Max I believe you requested a more private conversation. So here we are." Philip Evans stated using as calm of tone as he could muster. His wife had filled the rest of the parents in regarding her son's fear of revealing his secrets to her when she had pressed him about it previous. They all agreed it would be best for all of the concern parties to keep calm and listen to their explanation. "I'm not really sure what you want me to explain." Play dumb Max thought to himself. Nancy Parker didn't want to scare either of the two teens but her daughter was her first priority and she needed to know she was okay. "Liz, could you feel what was happening to you? I mean are you okay?" Her voice was full of concern. "Mom I'm fine." Liz could feel herself becoming protective of Max and continued. "I know everyone's imagination must be going into overdrive right now, but please don't think that what happened earlier is anything bad or dangerous." "Max once told me almost that exact same thing before." Diane said as she reached for her son's hand, then asked. "Max has this happened before?" "Yes," Keep your answers short as possible, play dumb. He repeated in his head. "Can you do that to anyone." Jeff Parker inquired. "No." Play dumb, play dumb. Short and simple. "Liz can you do it to Max?" Diane asked even though she was pretty sure of the answer already. "No." She answered, then under her breathe she whispered. "Not yet anyway." Max looked at Liz and smiled realizing that she just might be able to do it to him someday. "I still want an explanation of how you can do it in the first place Max?" His father questioned, voice still as calm as possible. "Because I..." Max stumbled for the right words to use. Liz noticed his hesitation and squeezed his hand slightly to let him know she was behind him. He looked directly into Liz's eyes and began again. "Because I love her." Silence fell upon the room as all four parents watched as Max stared into Liz's eyes and she stared back into his. Nancy then looked over to Diane who had a tear of joy for her son running down her cheek. Jeff Parker was the first one to finally speak. "I love my wife, but I've never been able to make her glow. I'm going to need a little more." "Dad, I know this is hard for any of you to understand. I know you love mom as she loves you very much, but what Max and I have shared goes beyond just love as you know it. We made a connection to each other." "Oh my god you haven't had...Have you two..." Nancy Parker was having difficulty saying the word sex and thankfully her daughter answered her question before she could finish. "Mom! No, I didn't mean that kind of connection. I'm talking about a more spiritual connection." "Okay now I'm even more confused. A spiritual connection? Is this something that is going to hurt you Liz?" Now it was Max's turn. He couldn't let her father think he would do anything that could possibly hurt Liz. "Mr. Parker, I can assure you I would die before I would let any physical harm come to Liz." Max stood up and walked behind the couch and continued. "Liz is right. There is some kind of special bond between us. I mean we have seen inside each others souls." "What?" Both Jeff and Nancy said in unison. "I know that sounds unbelievable, but it's true. You have all heard the expression of soulmates, well Liz and I are true soulmates." "Soulmates, honey I think that's an awful strong word to use for someone of your age." Diane stated wondering if it could possible be true. "It's true Mrs. Evans. I have seen inside your son's soul and I can assure you it's a wonderful soul." Lis glanced up and gave Max a smile that said how much she loved him. "Then why did the two of you stop seeing each other if you two truly believe you are soulmates?" Nancy couldn't help but asked. Remembering how devastated her daughter had been at the lost of Max lately. She then thought about it and wondered if it could actually be true. "Mrs. Evans, you answered that question. We are very young. We have tried to deny it ourselves. The first time it was Max who tried to slow our connection and step away. Then this last time it was my turn to try and deny our connection. But without him I..." Liz put her hands to your face unable to continue her thought. Max seen this and immediately went back to sit next to Liz. He wrapped his arms around her in a loving but also protective way and whispered in her ear. "I know, I felt the same way." Liz responded to Max by returning his embrace with her own. The loving gesture did not go unnoticed between the two mothers. Even though both parents were beginning to see the connection between their children neither were sure what exactly was to come next. The father's were the ones to voice their concerns. Liz's father went first. "I realize that the two of you believe what you are saying is true, but what's next?" Philip added "My thoughts exactly, you two are still very young with your whole lives in front of you." "We understand your concerns. Liz and I both have had difficulty understanding this ourselves. But the more we understand it the more both of us are sure of one thing. The bond between us means something. Even if we don't have all the answers to what it means yet." Liz looked to her parents, then to Max's parents, then to Max and then back to her parents. "Dad, mom, I am in love with Max. I can't even begin to tell you where I would be today if he wasn't a part of my life, but we don't know what the future has in store for us. Please try to understand we are just trying to understand this ourselves. We can promise you this though, we aren't going to run off or do anything rash." "Well, I know my son has always been a responsible young man and I want to continue to trust him as I have always been able to." "Your right Diane, Liz too has always shown us she is very responsible and I believe in my heart she will make the right decisions. It's been a long evening, thank you Diane for a wonderful dinner." As everyone stood up to head toward the doors Mr. Parker looked Max directly in the eye and asked him if he would make sure Liz made it home safely. Max nodded and stuck out his hand. The two of them shook hands firmly. "I will." Max answered. As soon as the Parkers left, Max's mom and dad excused themselves. Once alone Max turned to Liz and said. "So." "So." Liz repeated. "I guess the truth was the best way to go after all." "Was it the truth Max?" "Liz I know we have a lot to discuss, but as far as everything I said tonight. Yes, it was the truth." He approached Liz cautiously and reached out to touch her face with his hand. Before Max could touch her she backed away slowly. "Max, I won't deny we share a connection that goes beyond anything I could have every dreamed. But, it doesn't change your destiny. And I won't stand in the way of that. I can't. I love you too much to even try." "Liz, I need to ask you a personal question." She looked Max directly in his eyes and nodded for him to continue. "How did you feel when we were apart? I mean really feel inside?" Liz knew she wouldn't be able to lie to him so she answered him as truthfully as she could. She felt he deserved that much from her. "Like a part of me died." "I felt the same way. Not only did I feel like a part of me died when you walked away, but I could feel that part of you that died also. I honestly don't believe I could survive without you in my life. I need to be able to talk to you, touch you, see in your soul or my life might as well end right here, right now." "Max, please don't say that." Liz went and slumped down on the couch. "What choice do we have really. If we choose our own happiness, then your whole planets last hopes die. If I let you go, I don't know if either one of us could survive that. Then where would your planets hopes go. I just don't know what the right choice is." "Liz I still don't have all the answers about my future." Max sat next to Liz on the couch. "Besides after what we just told our parents how are we going to explain not being together this time. As I see it we don't have any choice but to date." He grinned widely at her. Just then Isabel walked into the living room. "He's right you know Liz. I'm sorry but I couldn't help hearing what you guys told them. You basically told mom and dad you were soulmates so you guys have no choice but to be a couple or figure out a good enough reason to explain why two soulmates can't be together without revealing our secret." She then winked at Max to let him know she was behind him. "What about your destiny to be with Michael?" Liz couldn't help but ask Isabel. Isabel started laughing immediately. "Do you see me with Michael? Let's be real here. I love Michael like I love Max. I think of him as my brother." "Well, you and Michael might be able to choose a different destiny. But, Tess doesn't think of Max as a brother." "We choose our own destinies, remember Liz. Tess may want something else, but what she wants from me I can't give her. Not when my heart and soul belongs to you." Max reached over and caressed Liz's arm and once again her arm glowed. Isabel gasped as she watched Liz glow. Liz watched in amazement once again. "Max it's getting late. I think we both have a lot to think about. Could you please drive me home?" Max got up and held his hand out to help Liz up. He saw the look Isabel had given him when he had touched Liz and told her he would be back soon. Knowing they would have a lot to discuss. The drive to Liz's home was in silence. Neither knowing exactly what to say to each other. When Max pulled up to the Crashdown he finally broke the silence. "Can I call you tomorrow at least?" Liz answered, "Yes." Then she leaned over and gave him a quick kiss and hopped out of the jeep before he had a chance to return the kiss or say anything else. Liz didn't even have a chance to sit down on her bed when her mother appeared at her bedroom door. "Honey, are you okay really?" Liz leapt into her mother's arms and began to cry. "I'm so confused mom." Her mother knew there was much more to their break up than either Max or Liz had said earlier. "Shhhh. It's going to be okay. I know admitting your feelings for Max tonight was difficult for the both of you. But, I also know you and I know you wouldn't have broke it off with Max without a good reason. Do you want to tell me about it?" Through her sobs she mumbled "I..can't." She wiped her eyes trying to regain her control. "It's just complicated." "Well, I remember your Grandma Claudia told me once if any one was lucky enough to find their true soulmate then it would always be complicated." "She told me that too. She also told me to follow my heart, but I just don't know if I can do that or not with Max." "Why. I mean it's obvious that you and Max have strong feelings for each other. Why don't you think you can be with him? What's so complicated about it?" At that moment Liz wanted to tell her mother everything. About how Max was the beloved leader of his planet. How all those on his planet was counting on him. How he was married to Tess in his prior life. Tess, Tess, Tess, Liz's mind couldn't help but picture Max with Tess and how they were meant to be together. Finally she said. "Not what, who?" "Who? You mean you have feelings for someone other than Max?" "No, the feelings I have for Max, I could never have for anyone else...ever." "Now I'm confused. Your telling me Max has feelings for someone else? I saw how he looks at you and I find it hard to believe he has eyes for anyone but you honey." "I don't doubt Max's feelings for me mom. I know he loves me, but there's this other girl. She wants Max too. You see she's really pretty and she's just like Max. I know Max loves me now, but what if someday down the road Max decides he would rather be with her. If I allow my feelings for Max to grow and if he did ever leave me....I don't think I could survive it. I'm scared mom, I mean really scared. Don't you see that's why I left Max now." "Liz honey, I know you. You have never walked away from anything in your entire life. You have always gone after what you felt was important enough to fight for, so my advice to you is to fight for what you want. Ask yourself, is Max worth it? If the answer is yes, then you just need to make sure that this other girl knows it also." "I know I want to be with Max, but what happens if after everything I still lose him?" "If you are true soulmates like you claim you are. You won't. True love survives any obstacles. Think about it okay. And remember I'll be here if you need me. I love you." "I love you too mom. And mom...Thanks." Mrs. Parker left her room and Liz laid on her bed thinking to herself. 'Max is worth it. Fight for him. Well, Tess one way or another I will figure away to show you that Max and I are meant to be together. No matter what any book or person says. I'm going to fight for Max.' She changed her clothes, climbed into her bed and fell asleep with new hopes for her future with Max. |
