"Life Goes On"
Part 1
by Mandy
Disclaimer: I don't own any of the Roswell characters mentioned in this story (except the ones I made up, obviously) and I don't own the song "Blessed" - that's Christina Aguliera's property. So is "I Turn to You" and the poem "I Asked for a Moment" was written by my best friend Angel.
Summary: Destiny has made its mark, but can Max or Liz really move on? Are the four aliens still safe? A new arrival answers both these questions and changes all seven lives forever…

Rating: PG-13
Authors Note: I wrote this a few weeks after I saw "Destiny" cuz I couldn't wait until next season to find out what happens. I know every author says this, but I truly believe that this story is similar to what will take place next season. Sure I was hoping that Tess would be grossly killed off in the first episode and have the six throw a party as the next episode but lets be realistic here. Anyways, I love feedback so please, talk to me! But be nice, please. I'm aware that I'm no Shakespeare.
When I think how life used to be
Always walking in the shadows
Then I look at what you've given me
I feel like dancing on my tiptoes
I must say, everyday I wake
And realize you're by my side
I know I'm truly blessed
For everything you give me
Blessed for all the tenderness you show
Do my best with every breath that's in me
Blessed, to make sure you never go…
-Blessed, Christina Aguliera

Jason Christensen entered the Crashdown Café and took a seat in a booth against the left hand wall. He was new to Roswell, only here for a day now, and wanting to take it all in. Jason was a very tall, muscular 16-year-old boy. His messy, dirty blonde hair was kind of to the looks of Ryan Philippe. He looked around the quite busy café and spotted a pretty brunette waitress. She had beautiful big, brown eyes, nice tan legs, and she was gorgeous. Though he couldn't help but laugh at the antennas sticking out from atop her head. Jason had grown up in a small town in Arizona, quite like Roswell and was much a hometown kind of boy. Moving to LA last year because of his dad's job transfer was a horrible experience. He found all the girls there to be fake and in his eyes, unattractive. But for Jason, the simplest small town girl was the most beautiful of all. And to him, she was the ideal girl. The waitress caught his eye and started to make her way over to the booth but was stopped only to have to re-fill a soda at a nearby table. Jason watched the body language of the guys at the table. And by the looks of things, this waitress seemed available. Especially the way that one guy in particular stared at her. He was sitting at the other side of the café in the opposite booth across from another guy with really cool hair. He was practically burning holes in the back of the waitress's themed uniform. She came over to Jason and pulled out a pad. "HI, I'm Liz and I'll be your waitress today. What can I get you?"

"Your number" he thought as he stared at her amazing smile. "Uh, I'm new to this place so you got any suggestions?"

"Well, the Saturn Rings are always popular, maybe a Cherry Coke?"

"Yea sounds great."

"OK them, one Cherry Coke and Saturn Rings" she jotted down the order.

"Uh, Liz?" She looked up from her pad. "Yea?"

"I'm Jason. Jason Christensen. My family just moved here to Roswell and I was wondering… if you could give me a little tour or something. You know, show me around town?"

Liz smiled at his request. "Sure, I'd love to. Oh uh, I'm Liz Parker by the way." The two shook hands. "I get done my shift at seven so, if you don't mind waiting around another hour or so, I could just run upstairs and change. My family owns the Crashdown so..."

"Yea. That's great."

"Well, I'll be back in a minute with your order."

"Thanks Liz." Jason smiled and Liz flashed him a smile in return.

"Sure, anytime." She hurried away with the order.

Meanwhile, at the other side of the Crashdown…

Max glared at the two of them. "Who the hell is he? And what the hell is he doing? Flirting?" he thought defiantly. He saw Liz smile and return to the counter. "Look at him stare at her," he thought, watching the stranger as he checked out Liz' legs top to bottom. "Then again," he thought lowering his head, "who wouldn't? She's only the most beautiful creature to grace the planet and she just happens to be wearing a short dress." Max's anger eased a bit as his thoughts drifted to Liz. He thought of the soft touch of her hair, the sweet scent of her skin, the taste of her kiss, then he winced a bit. "Those days are over Max. Liz left you. She may have left you out of concern and love but she left you. For Tess. But you don't love Tess. You love Liz. But she can't see that."

Michael stared at his friend thinking and abruptly snapped Max out of his self-pitying. "Daydreaming, are we Maxwell?"

"No, just thinking." Max said as he shifted in his seat awkwardly.

Michael knew he was thinking about Liz. The guy couldn't take his eyes of her all night. He couldn't resist. "It's nice to know that you're actually letting your brain function these days."

"What's that's supposed to mean?" Max asked sharply.

"Maxwell, we have things to worry about now. Big things. And I'm not talking about your love life, or non-existing one for that matter. Sure, we've been fine and dandy for the past few months, but that's not an indication to let our guards down. We've got enemies Maxwell. And they won't stop until they find us."

Max knew that Michael was right. Even though Michael wouldn't admit it, he still thought about Maria. It hurt that she was giving him the cold shoulder and he was in pain too. But staying safe should be all of their top priorities right now.

Maria came over and handed them their check. She glanced at Michael with a glint of hope and a glint of hate in her eye. She was just as confused as all of them. The two guys got up and left.

------------------------------

Jason sat at his booth not being able to remove his eyes from Liz.

"What's wrong with me?" he thought "this is practically the last thing that should be on my mind. I've got more important things to be thinking about. Like why my parents left LA and moved to Roswell or the fact that we were sent here for a reason. A mission. I need to help my parents find these four aliens and hand them over to the council. Anyways, my parents would never approve of a human relationship. They think so lowly of them. Like they are insignificant. Maybe so, but not this one. She is certainly something significant." He smiled as he watched Liz bend over to pick up a fallen spoon.

When the clock hit 7:15, Liz came back down into the café, wearing her hair down, a pair of jeans, a black tank top that partially revealed some of her flat tummy, and a dark jean jacket. Jason watched her cross the room as his hormones went into overdrive. Her hair looked so beautiful, so soft. Before it had been pulled back into a simple ponytail but now he saw what it really looked like. He wanted to reach out and touch it. He met her and smiled.

"I hope you don't mind walking, a lot. I was thinking we could take our little tour on foot. But unless you want to take my car…"

"No, no. I love walking." Liz replied quickly. She then scolded herself for lying. She hated walking long distances and she knew it. "Why did I say that?" She thought as she walked out the doors.

The couple walked the streets of Roswell for hours. It wasn't until after 11:00, when the Crashdown was closed, when they got back.

"I had a really great time." Jason said to Liz.

"Yea, me too. Actually one of the best I've had all summer." She replied laughing at herself and for how dorky she sounded. She didn't really go out that much this summer since she tried to busy herself.

"You'll have to show me around school Monday."

This touched her face and narrowed her eyes. "I can't believe I forgot. The first day. Of course..."

"Yea…" Jason looked up at Liz and stepped closer to her. "Liz, I'm gonna be honest with you here. I like you…a lot. And I want to see you again. But I got to ask, you're not seeing anyone are you?"

Liz stiffened up a bit. "Well, no, but I just got out of this really serious relationship awhile ago. It was really tough on me and…"

"And you aren't quite ready to move on? Yea, I know how it is." Jason said understandingly. Liz just smiled weakly. "Although I got to say, I pity the fool who let a girl like you go."

Liz laughed at his sweet statement. "I'm sorry, I am. I like you too, it's just kind of soon."

"Tell you what Parker, how about you tell me when you're ready to go out again, and we can do whatever you want. That sound ok to you?"

Liz smiled and couldn't help but say "yes". She turned around, heading towards the door. "Goodnight Jason."

"Night Liz".

She went inside and ran upstairs as Jason pulled away. When Liz got up to her room, she thought about everything she was going to tell Maria tomorrow since she requested a full report. Liz removed her clothes and slipped into a tank top and panties set. Normally, she wouldn't wear something like that to bed but tonight, she was felling good about herself. Even a bit sexy. She flopped down onto her bed, smiling.

"Jason's so cute," she thought, "Not usually the type I like but there's something about him." She rolled over onto her back, remembering what she had told him earlier.

-Flashback-

"Yea, me too. Actually one of the best I've had all summer."

Liz giggled. "Ha, more like the first night I've spent not thinking about Max." She stopped herself and frowned as she slowly rolled back onto her stomach. "I can't do this. What am I thinking? I can't. I love Max. I always will. I can't go out with another guy." She thought, suddenly feeling guilty about her actions and her feelings for Jason.

"But then again, Max and I can't be together. Maybe I won't want to be with another guy like the way I was with Max but I can at least go out on a date or two, right? I mean, its not like Max wants to patch things up or he would have said something by now." Liz opened her nightstand drawer and took out a picture of her and Max hugging at the Crashdown. She thought of the days when she was with him and how perfect they were. Running her fingers through his thick, black hair, staring into those eyes, kissing his soft lips, touching his strong, sexy body. "Oh Max, I love you so much." She whispered painfully as she clutched the wooden frame to her chest and shut her eyes.
