Shot entirely on<br \/>\nlocation in New York and New Jersey, the program unites Leary with<br \/>\nEmmy Award-winning writer Peter Tolan (&#8220;The Larry Sanders Show&#8221;)<br \/>\nto create a new comedy series about Mike McNeil (Leary), a jaded<br \/>\nNew York City detective whose toughest assignment is himself. He&#8217;s<br \/>\na crass, cynical chain smoker struggling to balance a challenging<br \/>\npersonal life with a job that leaves him wondering on a daily basis<br \/>\nif he is the last sane person in New York. His unconventional<br \/>\napproach to his job makes him a great cop, even on the most trying<br \/>\ndays. Luckily, he has a group of co-workers who tolerate his<br \/>\nstubborn will and reluctantly enjoy his acerbic wit and disdain for<br \/>\nauthority. The only thing he can&#8217;t figure out is why, if he&#8217;s the<br \/>\nonly sane guy around, everyone&#8217;s always looking at him like he&#8217;s<br \/>\ncrazy.<\/p>\n<p>Also starring are Lenny Clarke as Frank Harrigan, Diane Farr as<br \/>\nJan Fendrich, Adam Ferrara as Tommy Manetti, Bill Nunn as Walter<br \/>\n&#8220;Pip&#8221; Phillips and John Ortiz as Ruben Sommariba.<\/p>\n<p>Guest starring are Julian Acosta as Al Rodriguez, Keith David as<br \/>\nLieutenant Williams, Janet Hubert as Adinah Phillips, Wendy McKenna<br \/>\nas Karen McNeil and Karyn Parsons as Toni.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Job&#8221; will air midseason 2000-2001. Peter Tolan, Denis<br \/>\nLeary, Lauren Corrao and Jim Serpico are executive producers.
