Hi! I found this snippet on the 7th October issue of
\nMusic Week Magazine at my office — it’s a European
\nmusic trade mag. It seems like Dido’s album will be
\nreleased in the UK and in Europe now that they see

\n“The Marshall Mathers LP” by Eminem, you are sure to have caught the
\nchilling fan-correspondence cut “Stan,” which features an enigmatic vocal
\nsample by an artist who’s relatively recent to the hip-hop arena.<\/p>\nThat sample was taken from a song called “Thank You” by London-based
\nsinger-songwriter Dido Armstrong, known simply as Dido, who released
\na well-reviewed solo debut, “No Angel,” last year. Just hours after returning
\nhome following 13 months of touring in support of the LP, Dido talked
\nto MTV News about the controversial rapper and how she came to appear
\non his new album.<\/p>\n“I got this letter out of the blue one day,” Dido began. “It said, ‘We
\nlike your album, we’ve used this track. Hope you don’t mind, and hope
\nyou like it.’ When they sent [‘Stan’] to me and I played it in my hotel
\nroom, I was like, ‘Wow! This track’s amazing.’<\/p>\n“I’m not really sure how Eminem got [my song],” she continued. “I’ve
\nheard two different stories: One, that his engineer brought it to him,
\nand the other is, and I know for a fact, that [producer] Mark The 45
\nKing had ‘Thank You’ on one of his mix tapes.” As it turns out, a friend
\npassed the lengthy sample from Dido’s song (which was also featured on
\nthe soundtrack of the Gwyneth Paltrow movie “Sliding Doors”) along to
\nthe Detroit rapper.<\/p>\nIn its entirety, “Thank You” is a very dulcet, rainy-day-London love
\nsong — nothing like the murderously obsessive letter-writing-fan epic
\nEminem created around the snippet.<\/p>\n“It’s literally one of those songs that took me only a few minutes to
\nwrite,” Dido said of “Thank You.” “I was just sitting there thinking,
\nI’m going to write a song about having a sh** day, and then one person,
\nor anything — it doesn’t matter — makes it all okay.<\/p>\n“It’s not necessarily about one specific person,” she continued. “It’s
\nabout anyone who has something that makes them happy and just being thankful
\nfor that one small thing that actually makes your life good. It’s that
\nsimple.”<\/p>\nBefore Eminem put Dido on his “Marshall Mathers” album, which debuted
\nat number one on the “Billboard” album chart with the second-biggest
\nfirst-week sales figures in the history of the record business — she
\nwas something of a secret, and hardly a sensation. While her track “Here
\nWith Me” was selected as the theme to the WB Network’s teen-alien series
\n“Roswell,” “No Angel” virtually vanished from “Billboard” charts for
\nabout a year; the album made its comeback at number 144 the same week
\nthat Eminem’s new release debuted.<\/p>\n“I do find it hard to believe that someone would rush off and buy my
\nalbum after just hearing that small bit in Eminem’s song,” she commented.<\/p>\nWhile Dido and Eminem have never actually met, she is an admitted fan
\nof the hit- and dis-maker. “I think it’s refreshing that there’s actually
\nsomeone prepared to push the boundaries a bit and actually get to number
\none. I’m really pleased about that,” she said. “That’s why I always stick
\nup for Eminem, because he’s totally different and totally out there.
\nHe’s so intelligent. His rhymes and stuff, I mean, they’re genius. Anyone
\nwho’s prepared to totally say what they think and not care, and know
\nthat it’s not all deadly serious, and do their thing and do it completely
\nunique — I think it’s just so refreshing to have [a] number one doing
\nthat.”<\/p>\nEminem is not the first to discover the 26-year-old’s ethereally soulful
\nmusic. At age ten, Dido was skilled at the piano, violin, and recorder,
\nand years later she began singing in various bands on the London music
\nscene. She eventually hooked up with her brother Rollo’s musical brainchild,
\nFaithless, appearing on the trip-hop group’s albums to date (1996’s “Reverence”
\nand 1998’s “Sunday 8 PM”) and touring with the band as well. Clive Davis
\nsigned Dido to Arista in 1997 as a solo artist, at which time she began
\nto embark on recording and producing “No Angel” with Rollo.<\/p>\nCurrently, Dido is holed up in London for a quick breather before she
\nheads back out on the road armed with a few new songs she’s written during
\nher travels. “With all the touring at the moment… I’m not going to
\nget a chance to go into the studio until the beginning of next year,”
\nshe said, adding that Rollo will return to the creative plate to produce
\n“at least a few more tracks” with her for her next effort.<\/p>\nDido just nailed down two dates opening for a longtime influence of hers,
\nSting, at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on August 11 and 12. The singer
\nwill also be embarking on a headlining tour of the U.S. at the end of

I just wanted to
\nlet you know that according to a PR Newswire Association release on
\nOctober 10, 2000, Arista records is launching a full line of DVD
\nsingles. Among many artists, Dido’s “Here With Me” will be one of the
\nsingles scheduled to be released on November 21, 2000. The release
\nsays that the singles will retail around $9.95 each. Dido’s single
\nwill feature the “Here With Me” video and a live performance of “Thank
\nYou”.

Just thought you might like to know that Dido’s No Angel has finally been
\nreleased in the UK.<\/p>\nThey are obviously not expecting big sales as not all record stores are
\nstocking it and if they are they are only receiving small quantities of the
\nalbum, the most being 10.<\/p>\nAnyway I have got a copy and its great!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

on EW Breakout on pg. 20 there a picture of dido and eminem on SNL saying Dido Age 20 THE BUZZ Along with singing the unofficial Roswell anthem (” Here with me”), this litterary agent-turned-singer achieved ” who’s that?” status last week by appearing on Saturday Night Live with eminem, who samples her ” Thank you” on his celeb-stalker diatribe “Stan.” DISCOVERY After impressing Arista Records’ diva-spotter Clive Davis, Dido Armstrong was signed to the label’s U.K. division in 1997( her first name comes from The Aeneid) HAS SHE SEEN ROSWELL? ” It’s good, but i don’t have the patience to stick with a series. hte only thing i Love is The Sopranos.” ON THE CONTROVERSIAL EMINEM His album ” doesn’t offend me.
