New TV station to launch in 2001

\nMedia Reporter<\/p>\nThe Mobile-Pensacola television market will get its sixth commercial TV station in 2001, upon the completion of a 2,000-foot transmission tower in Baldwin County, according to a Pennsylvania-based broadcasting company.<\/p>\n
Likely, the station will become the first WB network affiliate for Mobile, providing popular programs such as “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Dawson’s Creek” over the air and via cable systems, said Nick Pagon, president of Pegasus Broadcast Television Inc.<\/p>\n
…”I have no knowledge to the fact that it is a done deal,” Leahy said. “However, there is speculation to that rumor. WB has not informed me.”<\/p>\n
Officials with the network could not be reached Friday.<\/p>\n
Nevertheless, Pagon said, “we expect it (Channel 55) will be a WB affiliate.”<\/p>\n
In addition to the popular and critically acclaimed programs “Buffy” and “Dawson’s Creek,” WB’s offerings also include “Angel,” “Roswell,” “Seventh Heaven” and “Batman Beyond.”<\/p>\n
Mobile viewer Nancy Trent said she would welcome a Mobile-based WB station. She now has access to the network’s prime-time show’s via Comcast, but she knows other area tube watchers who aren’t so fortunate.<\/p>\n
Trent routinely records WB shows for her sister and brother-in-law, who live in Semmes.<\/p>\n
“They can’t get it at all,” Trent said, “so I have to tape ‘Buffy’ and ‘Angel.’ One week I forgot to tape them. They don’t like it when I forget.” <\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
