Snapple, part of the UK-based Cadbury Schweppes PLC, has joined the
\nRoswell Passion Through Compassion campaign to benefit Families
\nof Spinal Muscular Atrophy (FSMA). A large corporate donation was sent to
\nFSMA after Roswell fans asked the beverage manufacturer to support
\ntheir efforts.<\/p>\n
Snapple has been featured as the favorite drink of many characters on
\nRoswell, and was the center point of the October 16, 2002 episode,
\ntitled, \u201cMichael, the Guys and the Great Snapple Caper.\u201d The Passion
\nThrough Compassion campaign was launched on the Roswell website
\nCrashdown.com in late March. In past campaigns, Roswell’s internet
\nfans have mailed Tabasco sauce and Snapple products to networks to encourage
\nrenewal of the show. This year’s campaign focused on raising awareness of
\nthe TV show and its passionate fan base through donations to FSMA.
\nInvitations were made to both McIlhenny Co. (maker of Tabasco brand pepper
\nsauce) and to Cadbury Schweppes to join Roswell fans in their
\ncampaign efforts. McIlhenny Co. made the first corporate donation several
\nweeks ago.<\/p>\n
Roswell writer\/producer Garrett Lerner\u2019s 10 month old son suffers
\nfrom Spinal Muscular Atrophy, and numerous auctions and campaigns have been
\nheld by Roswell fans to benefit SMA research. Money raised from the
\nevents is approaching $25,000. Two parties will also be held in coming weeks
\n(May 7th in LA and May 11th in Philadelphia) by Roswell fans to
\nbenefit FSMA.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, UPN, the network which aired Roswell, has announced
\nthat the show will not be returning next year. Campaign efforts have shifted
\nto focus on the Sci Fi Channel (which has already made a deal to air
\nre-runs) to possibly pick up new episodes of the show.<\/p>\n
