Broadway Star Angela Bettis Takes on Title Role Backed by Cast Including Emmy Winner Patricia Clarkson, David Keith, Rena Sofer and Emilie de Ravin<\/p>\n

BURBANK, Calif. — October 7, 2002 — NBC\u2019s new, three-hour version of \u201cCarrie,\u201d based on Stephen King\u2019s classic horror novel, starring Angela Bettis (\u201cThe Crucible,\u201d \u201cGirl Interrupted\u201d) in the title role, will be telecast on Monday, November 4 (8-11 p.m. ET).<\/p>\n

King\u2019s chilling tale of a teenaged girl, shunned by her peers, who discovers she has inexplicable telekinetic powers is powerfully adapted for today\u2019s audiences in Bryan Fuller\u2019s riveting three-hour teleplay which includes scenes from the novel that didn\u2019t appear in the original film, making it a more faithful adaptation. State-of-the-art digital effects take the action to a whole new level as Carrie\u2019s fellow high school students torment and mock her – unaware of the frightening forces of revenge boiling within her — waiting to explode.<\/p>\n

Bettis garnered critical praise for her role as Abigail, the troublemaking teen, starring opposite Liam Neeson in the Broadway production of \u201cThe Crucible.\u201d Her feature credits also include \u201cGirl, Interrupted\u201d and \u201cBless the Child.\u201d Emmy winner Patricia Clarkson (\u201cSix Feet Under\u201d) stars as Margaret White, Carrie\u2019s mother, whose religious fanaticism has made an outcast of her daughter. Also starring are David Keith (\u201cU-571,\u201d \u201cAn Officer and a Gentleman\u201d), Rena Sofer (\u201cJust Shoot Me\u201d), Kandyse McClure (\u201cJust Deal\u201d) and Emilie de Ravin (\u201cRoswell\u201d).<\/p>\n

David Carson (\u201cStar Trek: Generations,\u201d \u201cFrom the Earth to the Moon,\u201d \u201cIn His Life: The John Lennon Story\u201d) directs from a script by Bryan Fuller (\u201cStar Trek: Voyager\u201d). Fuller executive produces along with Mark Stern, Pen Densham & John Watson, partners in Trilogy Entertainment Group whose credits include \u201cThe Outer Limits,\u201d \u201cThe Twilight Zone,\u201d \u201cThe Magnificent Seven\u201d and \u201cBreaking News.\u201d David Livingston is the producer. The movie event will be distributed by MGM Worldwide Television Distribution.<\/p>\n
