I found this article in the Friday, 25th October edition of the U.K. newspaper the Daily Mail. It discusses Colin’s role in the London play “This Is Our Youth”. I saw this play twice earlier this year, once starring Hayden Christensen, Jake Gyllenhaal and Anna Paquin, and once starring Matt Damon, Casey Affleck and Summer Phoenix. It’s a fantastic play, and no matter which of the two male roles Colin will be in, it’s going to be a real opportunity for him to stretch his acting muscles, as both male characters are the complete antithesis of Alex Whitman — drug-dealing slackers! :-)<\/p>\n
\nTime To Stop Kidding Around<\/strong><\/p>\n
COLIN HANKS and Kieran Culkin were going over their lines in a rehearsal space in a small street just a stone’s throw away from the Tate Modern (museum) in Bermondsey, south east London.<\/p>\n
The pair, along with leading lady Alison Lohman (currently in the film “White Oleander”), are due to appear in Kenneth Lonergan’s play “This Is Our Youth” at the Garrick Theatre next month. The production has become a touchstone for young American actors wanting to step off the relentless Hollywood treadmill.<\/p>\n
As Colin observes: “There’s no safety net with this play — and you’re proud to be an actor, up there on stage every night. In L.A., I think the word ‘actor’ has much more of a negative connotation. I don’t really like saying I’m an actor. Everyone else is, or wants to be out there.”<\/p>\n
The play is set in 1982 and follows three young people on the brink of losing their youth. Kieran jokes he hasn’t lost his youth yet, even though he’s now 22. “I’m still a little kid. But seriously, why I relate to the play is that recently I got my own place. I moved in and I had nothing to do. So, okay, now I’m an adult. I have an apartment — what do I do now?”<\/p>\n
