A New Crop of Anakins<\/strong><\/p>\n

With Star Wars: Episode I set to infiltrate video stores this week, I think it’s a good time to revisit the Star Wars universe.
\nI hear there’s a whole new shortlist of potential Anakins to carry Star Wars: Episode II–Whatever They’re Going to Call It. Now the list includes Tom Hanks’ son, Colin (Roswell), Brad Renfro (Apt Pupil), Jude Law (The Talented Mr. Ripley), and Paul Walker (The Skulls). And Jonathan Jackson’s still in the mix.<\/p>\n

My quick take? Colin: No chance–this is a case where nepotism may hurt. Brad: Um, not really a blond, although he is a little scary–which could work. He does grow up to be Darth Vader, after all. Hey, Jude: The sexy Anakin–if only. Way too expensive, I think, after getting an Oscar nomination, and a little long in the tooth. As for Paul, well, he’s the best of the breed, but he’s already saying he’s off the list–something about looking too old for Natalie Portman. He told this columnist at the Ready to Rumble premiere that he’s never met George Lucas but he did meet with his casting director. “It’s not for sure, but it’s more likely that I won’t do it than I will,” he says. “I’d like to say my chances are 50-50–but it’s probably less than 10 percent. But, God, yeah, I’d love to do it, and then I’d probably retire.”<\/p>\n
