“THE 2000 ALMA AWARDS” FEATURES THE BIGGEST NAMES FROM WORLDS OF MUSIC, FILM AND TELEVISION, JUNE 17, ON ABC<\/p>\n

Christina Aguilera, Antonio Banderas, Beck, Jose Feliciano,
\nMelanie Griffith, Kirk Franklin 1NC, Jennifer Lopez, Matthew
\nMcConaughey, LFO, Los Lobos, Reba McEntire, Ozomatli, Denise
\nRichards, Paul Rodriguez and Jimmy Smits Are Among
\nPerformers\/Presenters<\/p>\n

The biggest names in music, film and television celebrate the
\ncontributions of Latinos in the arts, in “The 2000 ALMA Awards,”
\nSATURDAY, JUNE 17 (9:00-11:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television
\nNetwork.<\/p>\n

The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) is the largest
\nconstituency-based Hispanic organization in the United States. The
\norganization’s ALMA (American Latino Media Arts) Awards honor the
\npositive portrayal of Latino images in American film, television
\nand music.<\/p>\n

Ricky Martin and Jennifer Lopez will be honored as male and
\nfemale entertainer of the year, and Christina Aguilera as new
\nentertainer of the year. Antonio Banderas will be honored both as
\noutstanding actor in a feature film (“The 13th Warrior”) and as
\noutstanding director (“Crazy in Alabama”). Among those honored
\nfrom the world of television will be Ian Gomez (“Norm,”
\n“Felicity,” “The Drew Carey Show”), who will receive special
\nrecognition for appearing on three network shows simultaneously,
\nand ground-breaking talk show host Cristina Saralegui, with the
\nprestigious NCLR\/Kraft Alma Community Service Award.<\/p>\n

Performances will include:<\/p>\n

Grammy Award-winning pop superstar Christina Aguilera singing
\nher hit, “I Turn to You”;<\/p>\n

Award-winning gospel singer\/R&B star Kirk Franklin 1NC,
\nperforming “Nobody”;<\/p>\n

Rising Rock En Espanol band Ozomatli teaming up with rocker Beck
\nto perform “Bra”;<\/p>\n

The legendary Jose Feliciano singing his hit, “Light My Fire.”
\nFeliciano will also receive the ALMA Ricardo Montalban Lifetime
\nAchievement Award, presented by Melanie Griffith;<\/p>\n

Jon Secada and Reba McEntire dueting on “We’re All Alone”;<\/p>\n

An electrifying dance medley from choreographer Tina Landon, who
\nis honored for her work with such luminaries as Janet Jackson and
\nMichael Jackson, Christina Aguilera, Ricky Martin and Jennifer
\nLopez. Songs include “Scream,” “If,” “What a Girl Wants,”
\n“Shake Your Bon-Bon,” “Livin’ La Vida Loca” and “If You Had My
\nLove”;<\/p>\n

LFO and Son By Four teaming up to sing a medley of their hits,
\n“West Side Story,” “A Puro Dolor” and “Summer Girls”;<\/p>\n

Rock veterans Los Lobos performing “Cumbia Raza”;<\/p>\n

Comedy by popular stand-up and television star Paul Rodriguez.<\/p>\n

\nCristian de la Fuente (“Family Law”), Majandra Delfino
\n(“Roswell”), Giselle Fernandez (“Access Hollywood”), Daisy
\nFuentes (“America’s Funniest Home Videos”), Ian Gomez, Melanie
\nGriffith, Sophia Adella Hernandez (“Knockout”), Jennifer Lopez,
\nConstance Marie (“Union Square”), Matthew McConaughey, Alex
\nMeneses (“The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas”), Esai Morales,
\nJacqueline Obradors (“Battery Park”), Edward James Olmos, Lupe
\nOntiveros, Francesco Quinn (“The Young and the Restless”), Denise
\nRichards, Robi Rosa, Saundra Santiago (“Guiding Light”), Jon

Ken Ehrlich and Raul Yzaguirre, president of the NCLR, are
\nexecutive producers of “The 2000 ALMA Awards,” which was taped at
\nthe Pasadena Civic Center on April 16. Leroy V. Martinez was
