\nCalgary Sun<\/p>\nIt’s all relative, but David Conrad wouldn’t mind growing fangs if it meant he could get a date with
\nSarah Michelle Gellar.<\/p>\n“I’m absolutely hooked on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I think it’s one of the coolest shows on TV.<\/p>\n
“I keep petitioning them with an idea of how to work me into the series,” admits Conrad, who played Leo Roth on the short-lived ABC series Relativity.<\/p>\n
He wants to play a new guy in town who Gellar’s Buffy believes is an ally in her war on the undead — but of course, he turns out to be a bloodsucker bent on destroying her.<\/p>\n
Conrad feels his own series failed to catch on because “we lacked an edge. We didn’t take the kind of chances Friends or Party of Five or Buffy does.”<\/p>\n
When Relativity was cancelled, Conrad was invited to audition for several major movies, including Deep Impact and Boogie Nights, but he declined.<\/p>\n
“I drove my agent nuts because I wanted to do a play instead. I started out in theatre and really missed it.”<\/p>\n
It was a role in Return to Paradise that eventually lured Conrad into feature films.<\/p>\n
In the drama that opens Friday, Conrad plays one of three free-wheeling Americans who get involved in a drug bust in Malaysia.<\/p>\n
His screen buddies are played by Vince Vaughn and Joaquin Phoenix.<\/p>\n
“We actually got into our share of trouble while we were filming in Thailand,” recalls Conrad.<\/p>\n
“We almost crashed a motor boat one day while we were water-skiing in private waters and another day, we got frisked by police when we were a little too boisterous in a strip club.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\ndetective in a small-screen version of “L.A. Confidential.”<\/p>\nVariety reports that Sutherland’s first TV series role will be to recreate Kevin Spacey’s character Jack
\nVincennes, a cynical Los Angeles cop who serves as a consultant on a “Dragnet”-like TV series.<\/p>\n***David Conrad will take the part of earnest, ambitious police officer Ed Exley (played in the film
\nby Guy Pearce)*** and Melissa George will play prostitute Lynn Bracken (Kim Basinger won an Oscar for her work as Bracken).<\/p>\nThe 1997 film was based on writer James Ellroy’s novel of the same name, and Variety says the TV series will take place in the 1950s prior to the action of the film.<\/p>\n
