Roswell

Passion Through Compassion Campaign

From the Campaign Crew:

We ask you to come together to support our extended Roswell family in a time of need. As most of you know, the fate of the show is unclear, and there may not be a season 4. We thought about what to do to make our passion as fans known, and to encourage those who can to give us one more year. We have sent Tabasco at least 3 times (twice to WB, and once to UPN for a total of over 24,000 bottles) and participated in Variety ads, and other things to get the word out that we cared about the show – that while maybe not great in number, we were passionate.

Just as we were gearing up for the next big, and maybe final campaign, we all learned about a horrible situation that is affecting the family of one of the people that has worked to bring us Roswell – truly a member of the Roswell extended family. Zeke Lerner, the 20-month-old son of writer/producer Garrett Lerner is suffering from a debilitating and often fatal disorder known as Spinal Muscular Atrophy. You can read more about Zeke and what SMA is at this link:

The Crashdown Campaign Crew has decided to get behind something different this year to show our passion as Roswell fans. If we send Tabasco, or buy ads, that will be money that is basically wasted. It will show our passion but not our compassion. In the end, it won’t help anyone. We are asking you therefore to join us in a new campaign, what we hope will be our most ambitious yet. It is our passion that sells the show to the advertisers, and our compassion that the networks should be monitoring, rather than our numbers. We want to show them our compassion like never before. We also want them to recognize it like they haven’t before. Even if you are participating in lots of other campaigns, please take a few minutes to consider helping us with this one. It really comes down to the number of people who get behind a single campaign to make a difference.

Here are the details…

We challenge every Roswell fan to make a contribution to FSMA. As most of you know, this is the organization that raises money to find a cure for Spinal Muscular Atrophy. We encourage every fan to donate at least $1. Here’s what you can do to help:

1) Fans can mail checks and small cash donations (along with a note that this if for the Roswell campaign) to:

Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy
PO Box 196
Libertyville, IL 60048-0196

Credit card donations can be made online at: fsma.org
Please be sure to write “Roswell Campaign” in the designation box.

Credit card donations can also be faxed using directions here: fsma.org

2) Please send postcards to the targets listed below. If possible, please try to find postcards from where you live to send. We would like to show them the diversity of our geography. If that is too hard, send whatever kind of card or letter you can. On the postcard, please state that you have made a donation to FSMA and request that the recipient make a matching donation to the organization and/or help get the word out about this charity. Don’t forget to mention Roswell.

Sample note:

“I am a Roswell fan. I could have sent Tabasco but instead I’m sending $____ to Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy to show my compassion as a Roswell fan. Please do what you can to help with this campaign(match my donation if you can), promote it through your media connections, and help me make the compassion of the Roswell fans known to those deciding the show’s fate. Even if you don’t hear me, one day a child will. I only hope that you listen.”

3) Please show your support by signing our online campaign registry:
Online Campaign Registry so we can keep track of how many people are standing with us.

4) We will also be asking Snapple and Tabasco to help us in this campaign – of course we are just asking them now, and it’s not a sure thing that they will listen. Those two companies have benefited greatly by our passion as fans, and we are asking them to return that same level of passion towards us now in helping us with this campaign. The campaign crew will be sending letters to the following people asking for their support. The press releases about the things we do are few and far between. They could help us with that if they choose not to turn a deaf ear.(Which may not be the wisest thing to do to a passionate Roswell fan). If you want to send letters directly to them now, do so at:

Paul McIlhenny
President
McIlhenny Co.

Snapple Beverage Group, Inc.

We will also be targeting media outlets, including the Oprah Winfrey show, various newspapers and so on. Right now, the most important thing is to get as many fans as possible to participate to make this newsworthy. Please help us by taking a few minutes to complete the steps above. Make your passion known through your compassion.
