Cinescape.com – Roswell News ‘Save Roswell’

Roswell Extra!

Cries of ‘SAVE ROSWELL!’ have rung out as fans of Roswell react to rampant rumors of the show’s cancellation possibility. Letter writing campaigns are in full swing and petitions through both postal and email venues are circulating. One in particular is asking fans to mail Warner Brothers a bottle of Tabasco sauce with their letter. These Roswellians [apparently you’re a Roswellian if you’re a fan of the show and a Roswellite if you actually come from the town] plan to make sure their favorite show stays on the air.

In the mean time, Roswell is being moved to a new day. Beginning on April 10th, Roswell will be shown on Mondays at 9:00 p.m. The good news with the move is there will be all new episodes for the rest of the season. Warner Brothers says future episodes will “expand creatively to further develop its sci-fi elements.” This has spawned fan debates over whether more sci-fi would enhance the show or destroy its romantic elements.

The March Issue of Life magazine features a great cover with Jason Behr, Katherine Heigl, and Brendan Fehr. In it they’re holding a photo of a 1962 UFO. The article, “The Search for Extraterrestrial Life” doesn’t mention the television show Roswell but is interesting anyway. One comment by a Roswellite struck a chord in me. He mentioned the large numbers of people who left Roswell after Walker Air Force Base closed in 1967. I remember ours being the only house for several blocks which wasn’t vacant. I was six.

Los Angeles saw the first ever Roswellian Gathering on February 26th, 2000. About 75 fans attended at the L.A. Paramount Studios where they met cast members and saw a pre-screening of the episode, “Sexual Healing.” For more info from a gathering attendee and some photos, see the eFanGuide website.

This Thursday, March 9th, Warner Brothers hosts a chat called Answer Your Questions. Many Roswell fans will be attending in hopes of some bit of news and to give their words of encouragement to the studio to continue Roswell. Anyone interested in joining the chat is encouraged to subscribe before chat time as chat software may need to be installed a head of time. Those not subscribed as members to the site will not be allowed to ask questions.
