B+T Campaign: A Heartfelt Letter To Netflix
“For me, Baron & Toluca is more than just an opportunity to watch a show on Netflix,” wrote Marey in a heartfelt letter to the streaming giant.
She sees the possible show as “an opportunity to inspire girls/women about the roles they can play, the ideas they can write about and the causes they can support.” and we agree on that.
Marey is a dedicated fan of Roswell and B+T which is inspired by the show. While it’s not Roswell, it would bring back two actors who loved their characters and with the five minute promo for their project “Baron and Toluca” they managed it to bring back the feelings without trying.
“Roswell was blessed with the pairing of Majandra Delfino and Brendan Fehr in the roles of Michael Guerin and Maria DeLuca”, notes Marey in her letter and just in this few minutes of the promo, we saw what we can expect from a show which stands on its own, but cherishes the gem of the 90’s.
“Majandra & Brendan embodied this chemistry by doing more than simply portraying a love/hate relationship with sweet or spicy dialogue,” she continues. “If you watch their body of work, you will see that they can also convey this chemistry in a ‘less is more’ approach. It’s all the subtle little things they do. They can say a lot with a look, a lingering touch or by leaning in to one another.”
Strong female characters, witty dialogue, and characters with undeniable chemistry, some sci-fi… are a perfect mix and it is hard to believe that this show is still looking for a home.
Take action now, if you want to see Majandra and Brendan in the roles of Baron And Toluca on your TV.
Thank you for your continuous support and dedication Marey! Please read her full letter below and let Netflix know that you want this show to see the light of day.
Dear Peter Friedlander,
Thank you for taking time to consider Baron & Toluca for the Netflix lineup. Here’s hoping this new show by Majandra Delfino and Brendan Fehr will inspire others in the same way Roswell inspired me many years ago.
In the fall of 1999, I was a senior in high school, and at that time, the teen demographic was inundated with female characters that were mainly focused on obtaining popularity. The majority of the ‘smart’ female characters were portrayed as ‘nerds’, using their talents to obtain academic success. How refreshing it was to have a show debut where the lead female characters were not of the typical cheerleading bimbo, town slut or nerdy bookworm stereotypes! Rather, Roswell showed that strong female characters can be smart using their talents to solve problems or mysteries and to show acceptance of others who are different, even those from a different world!
While the sci-fi genre has seen a resurgence in recent years with gatherings like Comic Con, it’s not what originally drew me to the show. As an avid reader I have always been interested in great stories that can intertwine comedy and drama, witty dialogue, and characters with undeniable chemistry. Luckily, Roswell was blessed with the pairing of Majandra Delfino and Brendan Fehr in the roles of Michael Guerin & Maria DeLuca. Their onscreen chemistry was electric and can be compared to that of D.B. Sweeney & Moira Kelly playing ‘Doug’ and ‘Kate’ in The Cutting Edge. Majandra & Brendan embodied this chemistry by doing more than simply portraying a love/hate relationship with sweet or spicy dialogue. If you watch their body of work, you will see that they can also convey this chemistry in a ‘less is more’ approach. It’s all the subtle little things they do. They can say a lot with a look, a lingering touch or by leaning in to one another.
For me, Baron & Toluca is more than just an opportunity to watch a show on Netflix. It is an opportunity to inspire girls/women about the roles they can play, the ideas they can write about and the causes they can support. Roswell was that opportunity for me in high school, inspiring what I wrote on a term paper as well as inspiring me to try my hand at being an author. It even inspired the actress Majandra Delfino, to continue writing for these characters.
When I heard about Baron &Toluca as an onscreen opportunity to see Majandra and Brendan together again, I immediately signed up for the Netflix service! And while I’m normally a quiet, passive person on social media, simply following my favorite artists and authors, once the opportunity for Baron &Toluca arose, I found myself becoming a major voice in the #NETFLIXforBandT campaign. It really tapped into my creative writing abilities and connected me to like-minded people from all over the world. It’s an incredible thing that a show from the late 90’s is still influencing myself as well as countless others to come forward with our support.
I hope the support of the B & T campaign shows you what a success Baron & Toluca could be for Netflix. I have enjoyed being part of this campaign, and I hope you can appreciate all the (bee) honey and tea that has been sent. (Or if it’s too much honey and tea for you, I hope a local homeless shelter can appreciate it!)
Thank you once again for taking time to read our tweets, postcards and letters in support of Baron & Toluca. We look forward to hearing from Netflix and yourself regarding the future of this show!
Sincerely,
Marey (@flutter_eleven)
