Fehr to co-host Blizzard Awards
(Winnipeg Free Press- 01/27/01)

FORMER Winnipegger Brendan Fehr- now the star of the Warner Bros. TV series
Roswell- is set to co-host this years Manitoba’s Blizzard Awards with
MovieTelevision host Terry David Mulligan.

These awards, which celebrate the best in Manitoba film and television
production, will be held over 2 nights-March 2 and 3- and will mark the end
of the Local Heros Canadian Film Festival.

“Brendan has family here and that had a lot to do with it,” says Richard
Horne, director of the Manitoba Motion Pictures Industry Association, who
presents the Blizzards. “It was a lucky set of coincidences.”

Fehr,23, was raised in Winnipeg, and will next be seen on the big screen in
the Forsaken, a vampire thriller scheduled to be open in April.

Horne says Mulligan was impressed by the quality of production in Manitoba
when he paid a visit to a couple of local film sets last October. When asked
about participating in the Blizzards, Mulligan expressed interest.

Traditionally, the Blizzards have been held one night only. But with a host
of new catagories added this year- among them Best Reportage, Best Anchor,
Best Children’s Program, and Best Performance by a Manitoba Actor or
Actress- there was a need to strech the program out over to evenings.

Blizzards four new catagories will be handed out March 2 at a pre-gala award
ceremony hosted by improv group The Royal Liechtenstien Theater Company. The
following night, the gala ceremony, which features Fehr and Mulligan, will
take place at the Prairie Production Center. Local comedians Deam Jenkinson
and Al Rae will emcee the event.

Nominations will be announced Feb 7.

[My notes:**Let’s hope Brendan will be nominated!]

Also noted in either Tuesday or Wednesday’s Winnipeg Free press, The
Forsaken starring Brendan was a “Most anticipated movie” in their Up Coming
Movie Reviews.
