‘Biker Boyz’ Speeds Over to Dreamworks
July 16, 2002

HOLLYWOOD (Zap2it.com) – Reggie Rock Bythewood’s troubled “Biker Boyz” has finally found a new home at DreamWorks Pictures after Fox 2000 decided to pass.

To star Laurence Fishburne, Orlando Jones and Derek Luke, the film is based on an article of the same name by New Times Los Angeles writer Michael Gougis. The mythic motorcycle story is set in the black California biker culture and follows a father and son to a drag-racing contest held each year in Fresno. The event draws a diverse mixture of personalities from all over the state — from the older Harley Davidson riders to the young kids with their Japanese-built “bullet bikes.”

The story centres on Manuel Galloway (Fishburne), a real-life California motorcycle club president known as King of Cali.

Bythewood, who wrote the Spike Lee-directed film “Get on the Bus” and wrote and directed “Dancing in September,” about a pair of ambitious black TV executives, will be making his studio feature directing debut with “Biker Boyz.”

Production on the film is set to commence later this month.
