Another Cut Scene from “Monsters” – Liz & Maria
As we make our way through this period of reruns, here are some cut scenes for your reading pleasure. Some help clarify plot points. Some are just cute. These are scenes that were in the final shooting script, but never aired. Whether or not they were ever filmed is unclear.
Right now, these are exclusive to “Crashdown”. If you see these someplace else, please let me know. If you’d like to use these on your own site, CONTACT ME first.
This is an interesting scene, because it shows how Maria’s fear of Isabel was increased when she found Isabel in her dream, and shows the beginning of Liz’s worry that Maria might crack and spill the story after all.
INT. CRASHDOWN CAFE - BACK ROOM - MORNING
Liz gets her books together for school as Maria, dressed for
work, applies cover-up under her eyes in the mirror.
LIZ
You really don't have to be so nervous
about her, you know.
MARIA
She threatened me. She blew me out of
the plane.
LIZ
But it was a dream.
MARIA
You're not listening to me, okay? It
wasn't just a dream. She wasn't supposed
to be there. I was having a very nice
completely normal weird anxiety dream and
then, boom! Isabel walks into it.
LIZ
What do you mean she walked into it?
MARIA
It's like the rest of the dream was a
dream, but Isabel was real. She looked
different, she sounded different.
LIZ
Okay, see what's happening? You're
building this whole thing up in your
mind. You're taking a situation that's
completely manageable and you're letting
it get out of control.
MARIA
Well, I gotta tell you, Liz. This girl's
got a way about her. She's just waiting
for me to slip up so she can incinerate
me.
LIZ
She's not going to incinerate you. And
you're not going to slip up. You're a
rock. Remember in sixth grade when I
accidentally sat on Nancy Cremo's popsicle
stick model of the Lincoln Memorial and
you saw me do it, but you covered for me?
MARIA
(beat)
I told her.
LIZ
(outraged)
You told her?
MARIA
See? I'm a gut-spiller, a sparrow.
LIZ
Canary.
(forcing herself to believe it)
This is gonna be okay. I'm late for
class. I've gotta go.
Liz exits through the back door. Maria walks into the Cafe.
