Crashdown.com Press Mentionings
Crashdown.com was featured in various print magazines and online outlets world-wide over the years. From the New York Times back in June 2001 to this date the press wrote website reviews, mentioned campaigns, content, as well as charity events were featured. In addition, Crashdown.com’s webmasters and team members contributed information and photos (e.g. the infamous Crashdown parties) to the book “Crash Into Me – The World of Roswell” by Robyn Burnett.
The “Roswell” Tabasco campaign is featured in the documentary “United We Fan”. The documentary by Michael Sparaga brings together fans, stars, and creators to explore TV fan campaigns. Thousands of letters and bottles of Tabasco sauce made The WB reconsidering the show’s cancellation and show creator Jason Katims as well as Crashdown.com’s co-founder and former webmaster Kenn Gold spoke about this exciting time.
With Brendan and Majandra’s B+T announcement, The World of Entertainmet interviewed current webmaster Lena about Roswell and its unique fanbase as well as Baron And Toluca.

Crashdown Jukebox: The Best Musical Moments From ‘Roswell’
[…] Since Roswell‘s soundtrack was as important a character to the show as the aliens themselves, I thought I’d write up my completely subjective and in no particular order list of the best musical moments on Roswell (if your fave didn’t make the list, please know that this was the hardest top five I’ve ever had to write). For a complete list of songs from the show (and one badass early 2000s playlist), head over to Crashdown, which not only has all the original music, but also the songs that replaced them on the DVD release. […]
WorldofEntertainment.info, July 30, 2016:
[…] After the announcement of the B+T campaign, which encourages the fans to persuade Netflix via social media to convince them to stream the series, it reminded me a lot of the various campaigns Roswell fans would do to convince The WB to keep the series on the air. As a result, I reached out to individual known as Lena, the web moderator of a Roswell fan-site known as Crashdown.com.For as long as I remember, I’ve seen Lena’s name associated with postings on the website, re-tweets from Brendan Fehr on Twitter, and in conversations with friends discussing Roswell over the Internet. It was the primary motivation to reach out to Lena for an interview request, just to get her take on how similar the two campaigns are. She was kind enough to agree to the interview.

Official Book Description
A new spin on the concept of teen alienation. Roswell is an intense, intelligent drama inviting the question: what if aliens survived the famous U.F.O. crash of 1947? Based on the popular book series Roswell High by Melinda Metz, the show explores the lives of three alien/human hybrid teenagers as they struggle with their human allies to keep their genetic secret while eluding the FBI, battling enemy forces, and most importantly, simply trying to grow up. Roswell incorporates the usual themes of romance, friendships, parental conflicts, and rebellion while incorporating an old sci-fi mystery that took America by storm. Roswell was instantly popular when it first aired in 1999, and both fans and the media loved the show. When the wb announced Roswell’s impending cancellation in 2000, fans petitioned the network and received a second season. When it happened again, fans turned their sights to UPN, the network that was thinking of taking over the show from the WB, and sent them 12,000 bottles of Tabasco sauce (the alien’s drink of choice). Floored by the fan reception, the network picked up the show. Crash Into Me features biographies of the actors and creators of the show, along with details on the original crash of 1947. Author Robyn Burnett includes in-depth commentaries on each episode, as well as exploring the alien mythology that has influenced the storylines. The focus of Crash Into Me is Roswell’s incredibly resilient fan base, which will stand behind the show no matter what.
TeenHollywood.com, September 6, 2002
TeenHollywood: Do you ever respond to anything on those websites?
Shiri: Yes. I’ve gone on a few times at Crashdown just to say, ‘Thank you,’ because I don’t know a group of fans [who were that dedicated]. They kept the show on another year at The WB and then they got another network (UPN) to pick up the show. You want to just say, ‘Thank you so much,’ because without them, you wouldn’t have a job and you wouldn’t be doing what you love every day.

[…]”Roswell,” which blends science fiction and adolescent angst in its story of the ultimate alienated teenagers, has built a small — an average of 4.1 million viewers last season — but fervent audience that crosses age and gender lines. And it’s a group that quickly seized on the potential of the Internet as a rallying ground. Fan sites, particularly the sophisticated Crashdown .com (www.crashdown.com), have been the mechanism for the well-coordinated and timed letter-writing and Tabasco-mailing campaigns that have helped keep the show on the radar and, so far, on the air. ALIEN BLAST Press Release: “Roswell Fans Rally”, April 3, 2000
“Roswell Fans Rally”
LOS ANGELES – Fans of the WB teen, sci-fi drama, Roswell are joining forces to show their support for this unique Jason Katims Production. “We (the fans) have incorporated ourselves as ALIEN BLAST” says Kristi Bergman, co-founder of the fan movement.
The movement started as a letter writing campaign, prompting all devoted fans to drop a note to the WB telling them how much they enjoy the show. Letters came pouring in and soon after, Tabasco bottles were also mailed. “Roswell is HOT! is another facet of our campaign. The aliens have a dietary quirk which has them using Tabasco sauce on just about everything: fries, nachos… chocolate cake!” says Kim Hedland, co-founder and ad-designer for ALIEN BLAST. “It’s definitely attracting attention”, says Bergman. Support has been received from all over the world, including France, England, Australia, Puerto Rico, Canada and of course, the US. Word was sent out over the Internet that it was time to rally! Fans who frequent www.Crashdown.com came together and annex sites were quickly created, like Fionna Boyle’s “Save Our Show – Roswell” site at how.to/save_roswell.
So, is the show in danger of being cancelled? “We don’t believe the show will be cancelled, but it has not been picked up by The WB yet” says Lena Dangcil, co-founder and LA party coordinator. “We wanted them to know what a huge fan base the show has, especially on the Internet”, continues Dangcil. Look for the first of the series of ads launched, paid for, and designed by ALIEN BLAST on April 10th in Variety. “The ads were a group effort done completely over the Internet. The response has been amazing”, says ALIEN BLAST publicist, Kelly Lyons “We raised enough money in donations to place a series of ads and make some charitable contributions”.
ROSWELL will be moving it’s airtime from Wednesdays at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT to Mondays at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on The WB starting April 10th. If you hadn’t had a chance to tune in you may want to. They have a talented cast of young actors including: Jason Behr, Katherine Heigl, and Brendan Fehr as resident aliens, as well as Shiri Appleby, Majandra Delfino, Colin Hanks, Nick Wechsler, and William Sadler. The writers are also truly out of this world. Don’t miss it, Monday nights 9 p.m. on The WB. ALIEN BLAST’S final statement:
“ROSWELL. We Believe.”
VH1.com, Show Me the Meaning of Being Rich, April 2000
SHOW ME THE MEANING OF BEING RICH
By C. BottomleyWho wants to be a millionaire? Lance Bass of ‘N Sync and Howie Dorough of the Backstreet Boys already have plenty of cash, thanks. But after selling millions of
records, both boy-band studs are going to make TV appearances. Bass will appear on the popular game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, while Howie will playan alien on the WB series Roswell.Lance couldn’t increase his millions on the show, though, even if he tried. With tough questions like “Which one of these four people isn’t in ‘N Sync? Is it Abraham Lincoln…” we think he’s a shoo-in.
Other participants playing for charity will be music stars Queen Latifah and Vanessa L. Williams, actor David Duchovny, and comics Dana Carvey, Drew Carey, and Ray Romano. Rosie O’Donnell, Kathie Lee Gifford and – BAM! – loud-mouthed gourmand Emeril Lagasse are also taking part.
The rules have been changed so no one will suffer the humiliation of being unable to put key conflicts in the Hundred Years War into chronological order. Instead, each guest will warm the chair opposite Regis. Let’s hope for the sake of ABC’s coffers there aren’t too many winners. You can see if Lance is a brain when the shows air May 1 through to May 3.
If he uses Howie Backstreet as his lifeline, then we’ve got a real news story. But while the Backstreet Boy’s chum A.J. tries his hand at being Johnny No Name, Howie is flexing his acting muscles. He appears on the season finale of troubled WB show Roswell. A spokesperson for the WB said Howie will have a cameo as an alien who visits the New Mexico town. With only one line, however, it’s a bit of a stretch to call it a real acting role.
Despite the size of the part, MTV is already reporting that this could lead to bigger things. The channel says Howie is negotiating to star in a feature film called Bloom. He is apparently up for the role of a bully out to spoil a young boy’s bar mitzvah preparation. His first appearance as an actor was in 1989’s Parenthood, as a kid in a classroom.
Roswell producers are just hoping that somebody is watching. Although the show about alien kids with hormonal hang-ups seems like a Buffy with tentacles, fans are worried network executives are about to give the show the axe. Prompted by the fan site crashdown.com, they’ve mailed thousands of Tabasco sauce bottles to producers.
Why? It seems the alien kids have to quaff the yummy pepper sauce whenever they eat anything sweet. The New York Post reports that Roswell is indeed getting another chance. The show is moving to Monday night at 9 PM ET, right after 7th Heaven.
“The final six episodes of the season are running in order beginning Monday, and fans of the show are going to go bonkers,” said Roswell executive producer Kevin Brown. “One of the main characters will get shot, and we’ll have a grittier, edgier sci-fi emphasis.” Hmm, who wants to get their face sucked off?

Earth to WB
Wednesday, May 10, 2000By VIRGINIA ROHAN
Staff WriterIt’s T-minus-144-hours until the WB announces its fall schedule — along with the fate of its freshman aliens-among-us drama “Roswell.”
But things are looking bright for the well-reviewed series, which devoted fans are determined to save.
On an unseasonably warm afternoon last week in Manhattan, Brendan Fehr, who plays the extraterrestrial Michael Guerin on “Roswell,” was doing a WB-related promotional tour in Manhattan — a good sign, to be sure.
And Fehr was confident about the prospects for renewal.
“I find out on May 14 — that’s two days before they announce, because I’ve been designated to fly out for the [advertiser upfront] show, so, I’ll know two days in advance,” Fehr says. “But all signs are pointing to ‘Yeah, it will [come back].’”
He’s also heartened by the “Roswell is Hot” campaign launched by supporters of the show, who have been writing in droves to WB executives. Along with providing the execs’ names and addresses, the impressively thorough fan Web site, crashdown.com, gives an etiquette for writing, and suggests that, in keeping with the “hot” theme, fans send along bottles of Tabasco sauce, which the show’s aliens love so much they put it on everything.

Site of the Week — May 8, 2000
Roswell: Crashdown
http://crashdown.com/The WB’s Roswell is one of the more thoughtful entries in the slew of Buffy the Vampire Slayer-inspired teen-angst-meets-the-supernatural TV dramas. Despite uneven ratings, the show has garnered a devoted fan base and a number of good unofficial Web sites, one of the best of which is Roswell: Crashdown.
The site features extensive episode synopses and reviews accompanied by photos, slide shows, spoilers and even transcripts. There are also biographies and large image galleries for the eight leading actors. Fan input is included with amateur drawings, fan fiction, polls, a very busy message board and a Java chat room. The links list is long and includes sites focusing on the real-life Roswell controversy as well as the show and cast. The site is kept up to date with plot twists and behind-the-scenes information. In fact, many of the nuggets and updates betray a sense of urgency born of industry speculation about the show’s imminent demise.
Roswell: Crashdown is a great resource for fans and makes a case for the show to newcomers. That’s good news for an unusual and distinctive underdog like Roswell.

Showbiz Buzz
A lot of you have been e-mailing how much you love “Roswell.” Unfortunately, there’s a buzz in Hollywood that the show may not be renewed for next season. Unbelievable, since it is an amazing show, with an amazing cast , but it seems every year there’s at least one fantastic show that just doesn’t make the network cut. Of course, if you are a fan of Jason Behr, Brendan Fehr, Shiri Appleby, Majandra Delfino, Colin Hanks and Katherine Heigl, there is something you can do. crashdown.com, which is not only a great Roswell fan site with tons of information, but also has a “Save Roswell” campaign going, including directions on how/where to send letters to help the WB know you want to see the show next season. Remember: if you really want to save the show, it is totally possible. “Party of Five” was once in the same situation, and a flood of fan support to the network helped save the Salingers from cancellation. So write those letters!

…..Rumor has it that only one of the three, “Roswell,” “Popular” or “Jack & Jill” gets a second season. To date, none of them has exactly torn up the ratings, but “Roswell” has garned the most critical support and has a strong fan base as well. Internet site crashdown.com has information on a “Save Roswell” campaign if you’re dead set on keeping this show on the air. Apparently, and I find this hilarious, there’s a movement afoot to send, of all things, bottles of Tabasco sauce to network executives to prove this show’s popularity. The aliens like hot and spicy. Here’s hoping WB bigwigs like it too.
Also in the “Roswell” corner is former “Star Trek: TNG” star Jonathan Frakes. Ex-commander Riker executive produces and has had roles in the pilot and an episode when a sci-fi convention comes to town. I’d be inclined to think that he carries some weight. Also, and this is totally funny, one of the denizens of an Internet message board, known only as Mr. Manager (he’s the manager of “Roswell” co-star Brendan Fehr) has hinted that the show is doing OK with the bigwigs. My money is on “Roswell.” Then again, I thought “Harsh Realm” would be a hit. It lasted three episodes.
Again. Who are these Nielsen people?
I don’t have the strength to analyze it all here, as I just realize that I’ve written a 2,000 word manifesto on teen drama, but just go to www.fanforum.com and find the message board for your favorite, or not so favorite show, and you can find out all about it.

For a real fan’s site devoted to Roswell, go to CrashDown.com.
For a real fan’s site devoted to Roswell ‘not advertisers’ I had to go to CrashDown.com, which turned out to be one of the best fansites I’ve ever seen for any show or movie, and believe me, I’ve seen plenty.
CrashDown was started around the time Roswell debuted last October and is currently maintained by about 20 people. And as Darien Wilson, one of the co-creators, told me, all of them are strictly volunteers. The ad banners they get barely pay for the site’s dedicated servers, much less the six to ten hours per day that Wilson, a University of Colorado freshman, and some of his colleagues work on it.
The effort shows: CrashDown is a true Roswell fan’s paradise. For starters, every single episode is represented by a long first-person summary. Plus, a whopping 100 to 260 screencaps from each show are featured alongside transcripts, slide shows, and memorable quotes. There are also plenty of still images of the show’s attractive young cast, though, for me, 15 shots of co-star Katherine Heigl (literally a Polaroid of perfection) weren’t nearly enough.
