Variety – “Shriek” Comes To USA
Horror spoof will “Shriek” on cable
By Dana Harris
HOLLYWOOD (Variety) – As evidence that the teen horror movie trend has peaked, new spoof “Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday The 13th” will bypass U.S. movie theaters in favor of a cable premiere.
The film will bow Oct. 17 as part of USA Network’s “Shriek Week,” a pre-Halloween slate of scary movies.
“Shriek” parodies teen horror films like “Scream” and “I Know What You Did Last Summer” by mocking a beautiful young reporter sent to investigate a series of murders called the Spring Break Massacre. It stars Tom Arnold, Tiffani Thiessen and Coolio.
The film was originally called “I Know What You Screamed Last Semester.” Sources say the switch comes courtesy of strong suggestions from Miramax Films, which has a history of being territorial when it comes to its “Scream” franchise. Miramax sued Columbia Pictures in 1997, alleging an implied connection between Columbia’s “I Know What You Did Last Summer” and “Scream.”
