Cut scene from “Missing” – Alex and Liz
As we make our way through this period of reruns, here are some cut scenes for your reading pleasure. Some help clarify plot points. Some are just cute. These are scenes that were in the final shooting script, but never aired. Whether or not they were ever filmed is unclear.
Right now, these are exclusive to “Crashdown”. If you see these someplace else, please let me know. If you’d like to use these on your own site, CONTACT ME first.
My apologies for the fact that the cut scenes stopped for a bit. Tonight you get some extra stuff to make up for it!
This is a great cut scene for you Alex/Liz friendship fans. Too bad it wasn’t in the epsiode.
INT. WEST ROSWELL HIGH - HISTORY CLASS - LATER THAT DAY
Liz and Alex are completing their oral report in front of the
class.
ALEX
"...and so we would conclude by saying
that McCarthyism was without a doubt,
one of the darkest chapters in recent
American history."
Their teacher, MRS. BROWNING, nods, as Alex wipes some
nervous sweat from his forehead.
MRS. BROWNING
Liz?
LIZ
Hmmm?
MRS. BROWNING
What would you say was the climactic
event that led to the downfall of Senator
McCarthy?
LIZ
Well, um, that would definitely be the --
Liz looks at Alex. She's lost and he knows. Mrs.
Browning awaits an answer.
LIZ (cont'd)
...that would be the--
ALEX
(interjecting)
The Army-McCarthy hearings. When Army
lawyer Joseph Welch asked Senator
McCarthy if he had any decency, it was as
if he pulled the country out of a
nightmare. It exposed McCarthy for the
bully that he was.
MRS. BROWNING
And what would you say was the final cost
of those hearings?
LIZ
Um... well--
ALEX
(interjecting)
Careers were lost. Innocence, too. People
who once trusted each other, no longer
did.
Liz thinks, as Alex talks.
ALEX (cont'd)
Accusations were made that tore apart
life-long friends. Accusations, baseless
and without merit. Friendships were
lost. Many friendships were lost.
The BELL RINGS. The class files out. Alex retrieves his
books next to Liz, but he won't look at her. He turns and
silently exits. Liz watches him, thinks.
