Fans Vote Online at MTV.com for 2002 Nominees
NEW YORK, April 23 /PRNewswire/ — MTV: Music Television today announced the nominees for the 2002 MTV MOVIE AWARDS. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring tops this year’s nominee list with six nominations. It was also announced that the eleventh annual awards show will return to the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. The winners will be revealed at the 2002 MTV MOVIE AWARDS, which will be taped on June 1st at the Shrine Auditorium. The star-studded awards ceremony will air on June 6th at 9PM (ET/PT).

“As usual, the MTV MOVIE AWARDS is not your typical awards show. This year’s ”Best Movie“ category features blonde ambition, super fast cars, a green ogre, hobbits, and military drama,” says Van Toffler, President, MTV/MTV2. “Critically acclaimed or not, these are the movies that our audience went out to see and the MTV MOVIE AWARDS celebrates the very essence of why these movies are made — to entertain and offer a fantastic escape for our audience.”

The nominees for the 2002 MTV MOVIE AWARDS are chosen through a national poll of MTV and MTV2 viewers. The winners will be determined by MTV and MTV2 viewers, who can cast their votes from April 23 through May 18 via telephone at 900-288-4688/75 cents per call (must be 18 years or older to call); and via online from April 23 through May 18 by visiting MTV.com. Tickets will be on-sale on April 15th via Ticketmaster and Ticketmaster outlets for this show. For more information on tickets, call the Ticketmaster hotline number, 213-480-3232 or the MTV MOVIE AWARDS hotline number, 310-752-8900 or visit http://Ticketmaster.com.

Last year, more people than ever in its ten-year history tuned into the 2001 MTV MOVIE AWARDS, which aired June 7th, 2001. Twenty million viewers watched the prime-time or repeat telecast that evening, with over 15 million viewers tuning into the premiere alone.

The “2002 MTV Movie Awards” will be seen in 165 countries/territories via 35 channels, in 18 languages in 382.1 million households.
