Roswell Inspired “Sweet and Spicy Chocolate Cupcakes“

“I may or may not have been inspired by a TV show from my teenage years to create a cupcake…“ – Erin (The Speckled Palate)

The Dallas based photographer Erin was indeed inspired by the old WB show “Roswell” in the making of some cupcakes. She posted her new recipe for “Sweet and Spicy Chocolate Cupcakes“ on her food blog The Speckled Palate on April 1st, 2016.

Erin announced her new desert creation fittingly on April Fools Day, because do you think about this unusual combination when you see this georgeous cupcakes? A perfect little surprise and Erin calms down everyone who’s worried, “The heat comes on strong after you bite, but they’re delicious!“

“April Fool’s Day has come and gone, but spicy chocolate cupcakes are perfect for any day!“ – and Erin is right. Even after the April Fool’s Day has already past it’s THE recipe you should definitely try next. It’s a pretty unique recipe and if you are a fan of the television show “Roswell” these Sweet and Spicy cupcakes are perfect for your next Roswell Rewatch Party don’t you think?

Erin wrote in the introduction:

[…] I’m about to get real nerdy on y’all.
These cupcakes have a story behind them, and the story isn’t just, “Hey, wouldn’t it be funny to make spicy chocolate cupcakes to give to someone for April Fools Day?”

Oh, no.

No, no, no, no, no.

Waaaaaay back in the day (1999, to be specific), a little television show on the WB wiggled its way into my heart and didn’t stop endearing itself to me, even when it got beyond ridiculous. (Yes, I can admit that now. But then? I was a diehard fan. DIEHARD.)

That little show was called Roswell. […]

Spoiler alert: Tabasco in the cupcake and in the icing? A no go. I did some testing, and ICK. Waaaaaaaaay too vinegary. […]

Please head on over to her blog The Speckled Palate, read her confession and find out the secret ingredience of her recipe.

Sorry, but it’s not Tabasco. Erin does NOT recommend dousing your chocolate cupcakes in Tabasco sauce like the aliens who inspired this ‎dessert‬ in the first place. She found a delicious sweet and spicy flavor combination that even non-aliens are able to enjoy.

You can find an incredible collection of recipes on her website from appetizers to desserts and sweet treats so please make sure to browse through her blog. Your mouth surely will watering when you see all these delicous food photos (Erin took herself too!).

While checking out some recipes, I stumpled on another one I would like to mention, because Roswell fans can easily make another connection to Roswell. The Candy shippers are really addressing to the M&M’s® Red Velvet Brownie Pops, right?

Happy baking & cooking and please let Erin know what you think. You can get in touch with the former diehard Roswellian via all common social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest or simply tell her via the comments on her blog.
