“Grey’s Anatomy” premiers September 24, 2009

The 6th season of the ABC medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy” is scheduled to premiere on September 24, 2009. Katherine Heigl who plays Isobel “Izzie” Stevens on the show is going to take a five-episode hiatus from “Grey’s Anatomy” in order to film the movie “Life As We Know It”.

As reported last month, filming on “Life As We Know It” is set to begin in Atlanta next week and with the shoot expected to last several months, this will mean Katherine’s character will be missing from TV screens for at least 5 episodes.

It has been reported that absence of her character, Dr. Izzie Stevens, will be explained with a dramatic storyline that involves the merger of Seattle Grace Hospital with nearby rival Mercy West. E! Online states that the story will not only bring in a slate of new doctors, paving the way for major shake-ups in the season to come, but reportedly result in Izzie getting laid off in the big merger.
