Jason Katims’ “About A Boy” Premieres on NBC
Jason Katims’ new show “About a Boy” premieres tonight Saturday, February 22nd after the Olympics on NBC, before moving to its regular time slot on Tuesday nights. Majandra Delfino’s husband David Walton plays Will Freeman, who lives a charmed existence as the ultimate man-child. After writing a hit song, he was granted a life of free time, free love and freedom from financial woes. He’s single, unemployed and loving it. When quirky single mom Fiona (Minnie Driver) and her son Marcus (Benjamin Stockham) move in next door, Will’s perfect world is changed forever.
The character Will was already introduced to the audience, when David Walton guest-starred on “Parenthood” (Season 5, Episode “Jump Ball”) on January 16, 2014 and there will be more crossovers. As earlier reported, the new comedy is based on the Nick Hornby novel with the same name and was previously adapted into a movie back in 2002 starring Hugh Grant.
Surprisingly, the entire film plot made it into the pilot episode.
According to THR, Jason Katims told reporters at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour that he wanted to get that story out of the way. He joked “I thought we were going to do the pilot and be done with it.” and added “We wanted to take what was so beautiful in the book and the movie — something I really loved — and honor that and then that would give us room to move forward and tell new stories but make it our own.”
