Peter Jackson’s King Kong earned only technical nods in the 2005 Academy Award nominations announced in Los Angeles on Jan. 31, while other science fiction and fantasy films were virtually shut out of the Oscars’ major categories. Kong’s nominations included art direction, sound editing, sound mixing and visual effects. (scifi.com)

The event takes place on Sunday March 5, 2006 in the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. The channel ABC will air the award show.
