PRESS RELEASE – ENTERTAINMENT – CASTING UNDERWAY FOR “ROMY AND MICHELE: BEHIND THE VELVET ROPE”

CASTING IS UNDERWAY AND PRODUCTION IS SET TO BEGIN ON “ROMY AND MICHELE: BEHIND THE VELVET ROPE”

The Two-Hour Movie, a Prequel to “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion,” Is Set to Air on ABC in the 2002-03 Season

Casting is underway and production is set to begin on the upcoming television movie, “Romy and Michele: Behind The Velvet Rope,” a prequel to the 1997 feature film, “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.” The title roles of the ditzy blonde friends-for-life characters will feature “Roswell’s” Katherine Heigl as Romy and newcomer Alex Breckenridge as Michele. In addition British actress Kelly Brook, who co-hosts “The Big Breakfast” in England, has joined the cast and will play Linda Facciabella, Romy and Michele’s favorite supermodel. The two-hour television movie will air on the ABC Television Network during the 2002-03 season.

This time around it’s 1987, and new high school graduates Romy and Michele are desperate to get away from their hometown of Tucson, Arizona. Their goal is to leave their square town behind and be amongst the beautiful, hip people in Hollywood, California, where they can realize their dream of socializing with the rich and famous. Their lives would be complete if they could just get into the celebrity-laden Ozone, the hottest nightclub in Los Angeles. It takes them three years to save up enough money — and find the right outfits to wear – but once in Hollywood, the lovable and lucky duo’s escapades lead them to a cast of characters who keep their lives from being anything but square.

Robin Schiff, who wrote the screenplay of “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion,” is also screenwriter, executive producer and director on “Romy and Michele: Behind The Velvet Rope.” The two-hour prequel is from Touchstone Television.
