William Sadler Wraps “The Summer They Came”

William Sadler has confirmed that filming has wrapped on the upcoming independent dramedy “The Summer They Came”, praising the film’s cast, crew and director America Young.

“Just wrapped filming an indie called The Summer They Came with a very cool cast and crew and a terrific director America Young. 😎,” Sadler wrote on the platform X on August 10, 2026.

William Sadler’s announcement came ahead of a report from Deadline, which revealed on August 21 additional details about the project and its ensemble cast. The film stars Terrence Terrell, Jayne Taini, Sachin Bhatt, Mario Cantone and William Sadler, with America Young directing from a screenplay by Nick Wauters.

According to Deadline “The Summer They Came” is based on William Storandt’s novel of the same name and centers on a struggling Rhhode Island seaside town that unexpectedly becomes popular summer destination for LGBTQ+ visitors.

The synopsis reads: “When a struggling Rhode Island seaside town unexpectedly becomes the summer’s newest LGBTQ+ destination, the arrival of thousands of visitors sets off a season of humor, heartbreak, romance and profound personal change that forever transforms the lives of its residents—and the future of the town itself.”

The movie is now in post-production. Principal photography took place this summer in New Milford, Connecticut, and the surrounding area.

A release date has not yet been announced.
