What Do We Know About The CW’s New Alien Show? – Part 2

There are some new things we learned about The CW’s “re-imagination” of Roswell and we want to share them with you today. Also, the “The Originals” alum Carina Adly MacKenzie recently spoke about her current writing project in an interview with Purefandom.com.

Are original cast members on board?

Apart from Kevin Kelly Brown, who was on board of the original show, new people are working on the project – behind and in front of the camera. Anyway, Roswell fan Jarrod took the chance to ask MacKenzie, if there is a chance of original cast members coming on board and he got a quick reply: “Maybe, if they want to! But not as their original characters.”

Liz? Max?

Everything is new, the story as well as the characters, but the main characters seem to have the same first names as in the original and the “Roswell High” books. Here is a script-tease posted on Carina Adly MacKenzie’s Instagram: MAX: Liz LIZ: Max In addition, she said in an interview with Purefandom.com, that “Roswell High” is her base. “I am basing my version on the book characters, not the show, so Liz is Liz Ortecho, not Liz Parker.”

Ortecho or Sallinger?

While many articles featured the official short synopsis of the project, the New York Daily News leads into the plot description by adding the name of the family:

[…] The reboot, however, will add a Trump-era twist: the Sallinger family will be first-generation Mexican immigrants.

“After reluctantly returning to her tourist-trap hometown of Roswell, New Mexico, the daughter of undocumented immigrants discovers a shocking truth about her teenage crush who is now a police officer: He’s an alien who […]

But Sallinger might not be the name of Liz’ family after all. As said above MacKenzie stated that in her version it’s Liz Ortecho.

LGBT characters

If The CW’s adds MacKenzie’s “re-imagination” to their TV schedule, some characters happen to be lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans. She revealed to Pure Fandom: “There will be LGBT characters prominently featured.” and she added that “It’s a really, really loose interpretation of the source, but hopefully a respectful and even reverent one.”
