WHAT’S NEXT – 2001 COLIN HANKS, ACTOR PG. 20

Colin Hanks has more in common with his famous father, two-time Oscar winner Tom, than just wholesome, guy-next-door looks. He’s also inherited Dad’s love of acting. Having launched his small-screen career playing Alex Whitman on the WB’s teen sci-fi series Roswell, he’ll soon be back on the big one: Colin costars in the comedy Get Over It (opening in January) with Kirsten Dunst and Sisqo. Although “like any parent, he’s happy I’m working” Colin, 23, says that when it comes to acting, Tom “doesn’t give me too much advice”. Says his Roswell cast mate Katherine Heigl: “He’s not a Hollywood brat by any means.” In fact, Colin’s uncomfortable using his last name to get VIP treatment. Rather than finagle his way into an advance screening of last year’s Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, Colin camped outside a theater for 25 hours to ensure himself an opening-day ticket. Months later his name would circulate as a finalist in the search for a teenage Anakin in Episode II (ultimately the role went to Hayden Christensen). Still, should George Lucas come calling for him to appear in Episode III, Colin wouldn’t be at all choosy. “I’ll be a stormtrooper”, he says. “[Or] put me in latex so I’m completely unrecognizable, and I’ll still have a laugh.” – Linda Freeman

POPSTAR December 2000:

CreepySexyCool Brendan Fehr

An exclusive chat with the boy who’s becoming so famous for being so cute in movies and on TV shows that are so weird.

Photos and Interview by Rena Durham

Popstar! Snagged shaggy Brendan Fehr-who plays the mysterious and oh-so-hot Michael Guerin on WB’s Roswell-In Los Angeles just before he was scheduled to meet some fans while advertising Levi’s new Lot 53 clothing line.

The 22-year-old Canadian has made a name for himself in such creekpy flicks as Disturbing Behavior and Final Destination as well as the otherworldly Roswell. But far from sinister, he had a lot to say in our one-on-one an showed that he has thismuch ego and THISMUCH heart.

Popstar!: How is Roswell gonna change this year?

Brendan: It’s getting a lot better. I mean, it was a ton of fun to do, especially the last five or six episodes-they were really good. We kind of evolved into more of a sci fi show than a romance show, you know, which I think was a lot more sophisticated.

What’s your favorite episode?

“Independence Day” just because of what I got to do. You know, with the home situation and stuff like that, and the crying.

I know that you were named a spokesperson for the World Vision 30-hour famine campaign. Can you tell me about that?

World Vision is an organization that sends through money and stuff like that, packages, to various parts of the world depending on who they designate and who needs it the most and all that stuff. That’s kind of when you use your popularity for a good reason. It’s pretty cool to be able to give back in that sense.

Your New Years’s resolution was to learn to play the guitar. How’s it going?

[Laughs] I started and I’ve kind of fallen off a little bit. I haven’t practiced as much as I should, or really at all. I’m still picking away at it slowly. But I’m just terrible [Laughs]

Do you have a girlfriend?

No.

What do you look for in one?

All the regular stuff, you know what I mean? You’ve got to be physicaly attracted to them, know that they share a certain belief system, got to have a sense of humor..um..gotta like my dog.

What kind of dog do you have?

A Rottweiler named Opa.

What celebrity would you pick to take out on a date?

Wow, um.[Thinks for quite a while.] Probably Anthony Hopkins. [Laughs] Because he’s probably have a lot more interesting stuff to say than someone like, uh, Jennifer Love Hewitt. So..[Laughs]

Would you date a fan?

That’s a tough call. I was walking around the mall before and you know, you might get a look or two but no one really cares. Then you suddenly become big-time and you are better looking.

Do you remember your first kiss?

My first real kiss was with this girl named Andrea that I had met at camp. I went to her parents’ cabin..I forget how old I was, though. I wasn’t that old, I was like nine maybe..or maybe not even-more like seven or eight. Then we kissed while we were sitting in the hot tub [Laughs]. We didn’t know what was going on but yeah, we had like one long peck in the hot tub. That was my first.

Boxers or Briefs?

[Pauses for a while] I can’t answer that.

Both?

[Laughs]

Neither?

[Laughs] Uh, yeah

What do you wear to bed?

[Laughs] I can’t answer that either!

What do you do to keep in shape?

I don’t [Laughs]

If a genie appeared and granted you three wishes, what would they be?

I’m going to go with the, uh, superficial answers: (1) Be able to play guitar and sing with Metallica would be one, (2) do a movie that’s on the same lines as like a Braveheart, like an epic, and (3) have straighter teeth. [Laughs]

Do you have a message for Roswell fans?

Uhhh, hey, how ya doing? [Laughs] Thanks for watching and thanks for, uh, I don’t know.can you say thanks for liking me? [Laughs] Thanks for supporting me and wanting to read about me and looking at me and stuff like that, and just realize that I’m probably not as special as you think but thank you for thinking so anyways.

The Teen Beat Times – Hot Off The Press!

Roswell Is Hot, Hunger Is Not! Pg. 13

A bunch of fans of the WB series Roswell are really, really dedicated to their favorite show. Earlier this year, they united through the internet community The Crashdown and launched the “Roswell Is Hot” campaign. It worked-the network gave the series a second season. Then, the group set its sights on an even bigger cause – fighting hunger. They formed “Roswell Is Hot, Hunger Is Not”, and then organized a huge fund-raiser event which raised $25,000 for the World Vision 30 Hour Famine program. The event/party was held at the Key Club in Los Angeles, and most of the members of the Roswell cast showed up to show their support. One of the highlights of the night-aside from the cast greeting fans, of course!-was an auction of wardrobe items from the stars. And this photo was taken of the cast as a little souvenir from the night – for you!
